Sometimes you gotta wonder why nothing good ever lasts   You pinch the wick smoke goes up, man it’s gone so fast   I woke up this morning to a blank page and cup of coffee   Now the cup is empty and the page is full      There’s daffodils in the kitchen on the table   We water them every single time we’re able   But they’re dying, spinning away, far too fast   Nothing good ever lasts       Why does everything die   When everyone tries so hard   Why does everything die   When everyone tries and tries and tries and tries and tries a little harder      It’s easy for me to fall asleep in bed   I close my eyes and count backwards from ten   But it happens so fast, the sun shines through the window   And I’m running out my door      I’m wearing boots and stepping through the snow   Birds fly above me, crunching is below   And I won’t make it melt, or at least not too fast   Nothing good ever lasts
