lately i cannot find any less comfort   than in the words of a couple close friends   they tell me my heart and my mind   are working to different ends   and i'm just too busy these days   and i'm so busy these days   so now there's somebody new   leaving her tracks in my mind   they tell me "remember, it's true -   this love will take you a lifetime,"   and i'm so busy these days   and i'm so busy these days   and i'm certainly scared, even unprepared   for the awful and inevitable conclusion   yes i'm certainly scared, even unprepared   how can i trust any friend who declares   that love is not an illusion?   that love is not simply a show -   how can they know?   maybe i have seen it myself   following its curious way   and maybe i have picked up on things   that lovers would never dare say   maybe love is a dog,   a sick little three-legged stray   it'll take what you give   and hurry along on its way.
