I was a child when I knew that a song would be my lifeline   I lay dreaming when she came    and she sang her secrets to me   She sang about a love supreme,    and a heaven she said I would   surely someday see    and then she took me in her arms and   sang me all the way to freedom      Then she led me and placed me in the middle of a circle   where spirit singers embraced me and told me my true calling   They said you'll have to cry sometimes just to keep the sacred   song inside of you alive,    But as you sing it from your heart   you know we're singing right beside you      Singing..........freedom........calling   Throwing out a lifeline   lifeline.......lifeline   throwing out a lifeline      As the light fell I knew she had sung away my sorrows   taught me my own song to sing me through all of my tomorrows   no longer needing pain or shame,    no heartache on this morning filled with healing rain.    I know we will never part my spirit singer here beside me
