Paragraph Lyric
hey narrator, now where have you gone?
i've heard you humming to the songs
the soundtrack of my public misery
the real world treads on all teenage dreams
and we keep wondering what life means
denying it might mean nothing at all
is the shoebox enough to make it worth it?
memories of reaching true love
even though it might have been just for a while
why take someone on a dive to nowhere?
is the ride itself enough to bear
the solitude of a long walk back home?
and will my home look at me the same way
or will it be shaped like her face
asking me what in hell am i to do
with the name of her dog, the size of her shoes
the crooked smile she cracks when she loses
at a board game...
was it there when she said goodbye?

and if it's a lonely effort
what's the point in living this pain?
just a random attempt at finding something that's bigger
a sum that means more than just you and me
is life the wait for the chance to try again?
just the wait for one more chance to try again
or just hanging around?

the narrator hops back on stage:
"well, that's it, i've had enough!
i'm disgusted by this poetry in loneliness!
when did this tyranny of sorrow ruin the things we believed
were a deeper kind of commitment?
and look how those butterflies flying away seem lovely from here!
because love is more than selfish adjectives
what went wrong that now a kiss and a happy end
seem just so out of the ordinary?
it should not seem so out of the ordinary..."

then the boy runs for the girl one final time
and the audience claps, just feeling so alive
'cause even though there was no once upon a time
it must end with happy ever after
