About Us

MERCU Learning Point, a wholly owned subsidiary of Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), is an education and training provider that offers a comprehensive range of programmes and services to the general public, corporate, grassroots organisations and other VWOs.

Set up in 1999, MERCU has an extensive network of early childhood centres, student care centres and learning centres. We offer a wide variety of educational programmes that provide a headstart and strengthen the foundation in core areas to achieve total development in education. We recognize the essence of enhancing the effectiveness of parent as a catalyst in the development of their children and families.

Currently, we have 13 centres consisting of a kindergarten, 3 childcare centres, 5 student care centres, and 4 learning centres that offer tuition programmes and 2 of which, offer GCE 'N' and 'O' Level programmes. We serve close to 2000 customers monthly and we strive to continue to provide high quality programmes and services to all our customers.

Our range of services and programmes has also been extended beyond private individuals to include corporate and grassroots organisations such as the CDCs, community clubs and schools. We aim to reach out to more people of various races through our collaborative efforts with private individuals, companies, religious and non-religious organisations, and other VWOs.

OUR TUITION PROGRAMME

MERCU offers tuition for students from Primary 3 to Secondary 5. Since 1999, a total of 10,200 students enrolled for the tuition programme.

FEATURES OF TUITION PROGRAMME
  • Brain-based learning method
    Teachers are trained to identify MERCU students' learning styles. This allows teachers to use techniques that are appropriate to students' learning. This method also emphasizes the practical approach and learning beyond the classroom.

    We stress 4 instructional strategies to enhance study skills. The 4 areas of focus can be summarised using the acronym MAPS - Memory, Attentional Skills, Processing Skills and Sequential Skills. All the above are done through structured Scheme of Work that includes specific enriching engagement activities.
  • matHrix - P4 Math (NEW!)
    ‘matHrix is a Math Programme targeted for Primary 4 students.

    The objectives are:
    - Mastery learning through differentiated instructions.
    - To develop students to be able to solve Math problem confidently.
    - Different levels of worksheets of graduated difficulty levels. Based on individual concepts.
    - Supplementing regular school math curriculum by mastering concepts, expanding scope and adding depth.

  • Scheme of Work
    Tutors are each given a Scheme of Work, which records the weekly topics thus serving as a useful guide for their lessons.
  • Examination (Mock Examinations)
    To evaluate the performance and understanding of students in the subjects.
  • Small Class Size
    This allows the tutor to better monitor the performance of each student in class.
  • Math Olympiad (for Primary School level)
    To instill understanding of Mathematics concepts in the long run through challenging task. Students will be challenged with Math Olympiad questions after every 9 lessons. This will sharpen their thinking skills and information processing skills.
  • Advisory Board
    MERCU has established an Advisory Board that ensures the programmes by MERCU are in line with the current MOE curriculum. They are also responsible in providing training for MERCU’s pool of tutor
INCULCATE INTEREST IN SUBJECTS
  • merQMatics (Standard 3)
    Apractical approach to understanding Mathematical concepts for Primary 3. It emphasises on hands-on activities that can be done in class or even at home.
  • merQLab (Primary 3 and 4)
    Science lessons are conducted in a more interactive manner. Students will be involved in conducting fun experiments.
OUTDOOR & INDOOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
  • Primary 3 - 6
    An outdoor and indoor tuition programme will also be organised during the June school holidays for Primary 3 to 6 students. This programme encourages experiential learning through enjoyable hands-on activities.
  • Secondary 1 - 2
    An exciting islandwide ‘Amazing Race’ awaits in June if your child takes 2 or more subjects. The race is not all fun and play. Students will be tasked to complete varied challenges related to English, Maths and Science.
    MERCU also organises workshops for your child on Self Motivation, Examination Preparation and Career Planning & Guidance.
