This place is awesome, the environment is quite nice and the foods are delicious as well. Also there are quite a lot of people coming here to eat, especially in the evening. Definitely must come here to try their foods.
Great atmosphere for chit chat with friends. Their foods are good too. Love their pasta.

Tucked away in a quiet corner at Scape, RaindrOps is one nicely decorated café that you wouldn't wanna miss. Here at RaindrOps, whether you like to dine inside its well-lit glasshouse for its cosy ambience yet vibrant atmosphere or the al fresco area, being surrounded by a sea of greenery in all angels, it provides an excellent getaway from the hustle and bustle of Orchard shopping belt.

The café serves a mixture of European fare of great variety. From their beautifully plated appetizers and salads, to pizza, pasta and other main courses, to their must-have desserts, its menu is sure to bring you a culinary adventure for your palate.

Our Tataki Tuna ($8) was simply a beauty to behold upon. While the tuna was fresh, the black pepper taste in my opinion was too strong that it killed the subtle taste of the tuna. The shimeji mushrooms on the other hand were toothsome and gave this dish the extra bites.

Portobello mushrooms were out of stock for the day, the helpful service staff recommended us to give their Beer Battered Mushrooms ($8) a try instead.
Crispy and on the outside and warm and soft on the inside, flavourful juice oozed out of my button mushroom the moment I sank my teeth into its golden armor. How satisfying~

My Crispy Salmon with Asparagus ($16) didn't disappoint. The salmon fillet was very fresh and succulent, and the potato mash creamy and tasty. Not forgetting the surprisingly delectable bitesize veggie which gave the dish the crunch. Even though I didn't usually like carrot and cucumber, I couldn't help it but finished all off by myself.

My companion's Chicken Leg Lemongrass with Pumpkin Risotto ($15) was decent too. The tender free range chicken leg was marinated with red wine sauce and made savoury with a Thai twist.

It was another case of too much good food that we (albeit unwillingly) had to give dessert a miss.

The service staff were sincere and attentive. While I was busy shooting our appetizers, one of the waiters asked me whether we would like to have our mains later. A small gesture it might be, I was always appreciative towards service with such thoughtfulness.

With service and food of such remarkable standard, all I can wish for is just a clear blue sky on my next visit.

I do agree that RaindrOps is one nicely decorated and urban cafe. Though small, it gives a cozy and relaxing feel especially on a Friday night after a long day. You could choose to dine at indoors in a glass house where it's semi-lilted(not the depressing white lights). Or outdoors, the al fresco area holds about less than 15 pax. I got to know about RaindrOps in the 8 days magazine when Scape was just newly launched. I read that if you happen to be seated in the al fresco and if it rains half-way through your meal, the staff will immediately shelter you with huge umbrellas and with that, your meal is on the house.

I've also read about the dishes pick of 8 days, the squid ink pasta namely. It was actually the snap shot of it in the magazine that caught my attention. I'm a visual person and it gave me intention to try out RaindrOps cafe. However, all that rave truly disappointed me at the end of my visit.

I remember that we were and went back to RaindrOps twice prior to our dinner at 6.30pm. Once at 5.30pm and another at 6.00pm. Reason being the first time we just wanted to check out the place out as well as had some queries about the food menu. For the second time, we decided to return to make a face-to-face reservation for 2 since we didn't have the cafe's phone number.

What disappointed me was that even at 6.30pm being dinner time, there was still only one waitress running around, handling both the indoor and outdoor areas. It took some time for her to finally come to us and when she did, I excitedly asked for the squid ink pasta as that was one of the main reasons I was there for, only to know they didn't have it because they ran out out of seafood. When I asked if did it just happen within the hour or so.. The waitress responded that it had been 2 days, (it was a Friday and) we could come back and try on Monday because they'd definitely have it by then. I was indeed taken aback by the fact that a cafe's kitchen could actually run out of seafood for days, despite having a couple of items on the menu that do consist seafood. What's worse was that the waitress failed to take the initiative to inform us when we were there at both 5.30pm and 6.00pm respectively.

Hence I asked if she could suggest something else on the menu and she did. She suggested the grilled chicken while demonstrating the estimated size of it with her knuckles put together. This was a kind act except at the same time, she unintentionally knocked my glass of water over by accident and it spilled across the table. It really occurred to me that I could have left and ate somewhere.

I did order the grilled chicken anyway and my boyfriend had the Hawaiian pizza. The chicken ($15) was passable at best and though the marination was present, it was a mere tiny piece with mostly chicken skin. It also came with risotto that was average and mixed vegetable, or rather I should say 1 broccoli, 1 cauliflower and 1 slice of carrot. The Hawaiian pizza on the other hand, was served at room temperature and not fresh-out-of-the-oven warmness. Though $12 only, we couldn't help but to find the pizza rather small as the quality was lacking, and clearly the portion couldn't help to compromise either.

The only remarkable point was that when evening had set and the start of the night arrived, we were accompanied with nice lilted candles which made it a good ambience. As I mentioned, this place scores for ambience. The food and service however, was totally overestimated.

It is not easy to find a decent and affordable cafe even with all the new shopping centres that claimed to be foodcentric along the Orchard Road belt. Isn't it ironic? Raindrops Cafe is a great place at the supposingly youthful but deafening quiet *Scape. It's a ray of sunshine for those seeking a cheap and quick meal.

We ordered the Portobello with Chicken ($8) and were totally sold by the beer-battered mushrooms. It was especailly tasty when eaten hot! My only gripe was the pseudo balsamic vinegar tasted too sweet. It was similar to black sweet sauce and very unliked vinegar.

Chicken Leg Lemongrass with Pumpkin Risotto ($16). I love the Thai-influenced dish and the lemongrass marinate was delicately obvious. The chicken was akin to a huge portion of satay but much more delcious as very tender thigh was used.

Crispy Salmon with Asparagus( $17). Sadly, the fish could be fresher but grilled vegetables were well-done. However, the portion was huge so it is good for healthy but hearty eaters!

Mascarpone Mousse ($9) is actually just Tiramisu. It is not the best in town but good enough to round off a meal!

Opened by a group of friends, the glass-walled cafe has a small indoor seating area (seems to sit about 20 or so pax) and a more spacious al fresco area.

We trotted down during lunch time and both had the set lunch, which comes with a starter, main, and choice of drink.

My starter of Salad comprised of a healthy portion of salad greens, some fresh cherry tomatoes and sundried tomatoes. A light start, though nothing extraordinary. I liked the concentrated, slightly salty and fruity sundried tomatoes though.

For my main, I ordered the Shredded Beef with Buttered Rice ($14 for the set lunch), which was recommended to me by the staff. The beef, that was sauteed with onions and green and red bell peppers, was disappointingly tough and chewy. I had to leave more than half the beef untouched. The buttered rice however was fluffy and went very well with the peppery sauce the beef was cooked in – for a non-rice eater I actually finished all the rice.

We had the choice of coffee, tea, or soft drink for the set and chose tea, which surprisingly came as a fruity peach and passionfruit tea.

From what we tried, Raindrops Cafe doesn’t seem to offer much in terms of food quality. On the other hand, it could also be that their set lunch simply offered up items that are not their forte – I spotted more enticing choices like pan-seared Tataki Tuna which were not in the set. Plus, I believe they also have a greater variety of choices during dinner time – I think it’ll take a second visit before a better verdict can be passed.

Raindrops Cafe, a rather new cafe located at *Scape, just behind Mandarin Gallery if you couldn’t find the location. There had been several write-ups in the newspaper about the new cafe and I had been pushing back my plans to visit them due to the busy schedule.

The cafe offer food at reasonable prices , targeting at teenagers. The cafe itself is quite cosy, seats available indoors or alfresco but I guess everyone would have to sit indoors when it is raining (no shelter!)

They offer set lunches which comes with soup of the day and a drink and the chef’s specialities are written on the chalkboard, a good suggestion if you are unsure what to order. They offer light starters/appetitizers, sandwiches, mains, pasta and desserts. However, I felt that there wasn’t much selections .Hence, I just ordered the popular and the chef’s recommendation dishes – Tuna Tataki and a Salad with seabass and prawns.

Prawns, Seabass, Mango & Papaya Salad ($10+)” Steamed seabass, prawns, mangoes , papaya and mesclun salad in Balsamic vinaigrette dressing ”
I can smell something fishy when the salad is presented to me. I suspect it was either the prawn or the seabass . The seabass is steamed and shredded ( I thought it was crabmeat) . After having a few mouthful, I confirmed the fishy ”business” came from the seabass, it just stinks a little. The 4 prawns were sliced thinly and was quite bouncy. The salad comes with cubes of papaya and mangoes but I thought that they should have served the ripe mangoes ( a little raw).

Tataki Tuna ($8+)

” Pan-seared fresh pacific Tuna, Shimeiji mushroom ragout , daikon salad in balsamico reduction”

This sounds interesting and tempting to me. The Tataki tuna is one of the popular dish here but I wasn’t wowed by it.I love tuna, especially when the tuna is fresh , pan-seared lightly and melts in the mouth. Raindrops cafe’s version is slightly disappointing. The tuna is seasoned with a black pepper crust which I felt was too peppery for me and the tuna meat was slightly overdone. As described, ”mushoom ragout” was not seen in my Tataki tuna. There were merely some shimeiji mushrooms and daikon salad, no creamy ragout was seen .

Verdict: The service is attentive, fills water promptly and service with a great smile. I think this cafe would cater to the teenager crowds which are not so ”picky ”about food as me as the cafe is a great hangout place!
