This is a fantastic cafe, and my girlfriend and I have frequented many since moving to Singapore. We like places where we can bring our laptops and stay for a few hours. Our requirements are great coffee and good food for under $10. Selfish Gene is the best we have found in Singapore. The WiFi is fast, the natural light (made possible by a large skylight) is great, and the food is delicious. The chicken sandwich is my favorite. It is usually served on a thick focaccia bread and comes with a side salad. The cafe is very laid back, and the staff is always friendly. I highly recommend Selfish Gene.

I came across this newly open cafe behind duxton a week ago thru magazine. Tanjong pagar has became a hang out spot for coffee place where all the cafes and restaurant started to grow at this spot. Many people\'s criticism about this whole neighborhood getting way too crowded during peak hours are completely accurate. You are unable to get a proper table have a book and coffee on a peaceful weekend afternoon. cafe and coffee are always out of supply! Selfish gene located few doors away from the famous plain cafe, it has spacious seating area where you will not find any problem getting a good spot for your reading. I had a cappuccino at sgd4.80, very standard price and nothing special about it. Will try on their food on next visit.
