The themes and lesson plans of the levels are designed with reference to the American National Standards for Foreign Language Learning developed by ACTFL (http://www.actfl.org). And the Curriculum Guides for Modern Languages developed by the Toronto Disrict Board of Education. The program aims to help beginners develop their communicative competence in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing while gaining and appreciation of the Chinese culture, exercising their ability to compare and contrast different cultures, making connections with other discipline areas, and extending their learning experiences to their home and communities.
