Nice restaurant setting with good service staff. Was there for dinner with customers and the dishes were great especially the whole Abalone. It wasn't too tough and the taste was good. A great restaurant to bring your business associates or friends...including family also
This restaurant not only has very friendly service staffs and a very cosy dining environment, they also served many different types of deliciuos chinese cruisines which will certainly impress your taste bud.One of my favourite dish is their fish fillet with wasabi sauce. The fish meat is very soft and light, which is also very fresh too.The secret weapon will be their signature wasabi sauce which once coated to the fish fillet, you will be surprise on how good the taste is.Not really that spicy and also very fragrant too.
This chinese restaurant is really good at producing all kinds of quality chinese dishes and dim sums to delight me.One of my favourite dim sums will be their egg tarts. The crust of the egg tarts have been baked till really nice golden brown and is very crispy and not too oily. The custard egg filling is very smooth, light and not too sweet. One piece of it is never enough for me.
Wah this restaurant receives 4.5/5 for me! Everythng works for me here.. good quality chinese food, nice and elegant environment, great service staff.. and good for the occasion to bring parents..yummm...and value for money! Came with my family to celebrate mother\'s day in advance and becoz theres a promotion with UOB dine 4 pay 3, it really is very worth it.. the dinner alar-carte is a 45++ per person, or else theres another promotion running that is 78++ for 2.. OK the food was really innovative and good quality (sorry no photos becoz too many dishes and dunwan to look stupid in front of my parents snapping away).. the ones i can remember 1. eggplant with pork floss-almost like a snack that u cant stop! 2. spinach with 3 eggs (healthy eat with century egg and beaten egg poured over a bed of spinach, looks healthier than crystal jade\'s version) 3. fresh prawns (very fresh!) 4. fried soon hock 5. cathay roast chicken( this is a MUST TRY my dear followers! The skin is really good kung fu.. almost taste like suckling pig skin.. and theres this batter thing outside which we found out was fried breadcrumbs.. i think this is their signature dish.) 6. sharksfin was the only disappointment. They only allow one serving per person.. but i felt there were more broth than fin.. =( 7. sea asparagus with scallop and celery (the sea asparagus was done in a rather interesting way, tasty dish but a tad oily. 8. wasabi prawn- my family left one for me because they came earlier n this was wonderfully done with the right amount of wasabi.. 9. desserts-panfried red bean cake.. this version they have here was abit different from the usually ones with ragards to the pastry skin. but still not too bad.. the puddings look like those they bought from supermarkets with the shape of containers so i say save your stomach for others.. I tried the red bean paste with lotus seed.. was not too sweet but not too memorable) I will definitely recommend this for family its really good value.. and im dreaming of the food while im writing this.. lol.. I heard their dimsum buffet are very good too. Will definitely come again! Oh an a word for their service..the waitresses were very attentive and kept changing out used plates.. brownie points for that!
The Cathay Restaurant is always packed, the past 3 times we went we had to reservations! The xiao long bao is so-so, i\'d prefer Ding Tai Fung, but it is still acceptable! My mom loves zhu jiao, and this isn\'t as appealing as i thought it would be but still tastes fresh! The Chee Cheong Fun is really really good! The sauce is good mix of saltishness and sweetness . It is a MUST-TRY!Quite oily but the stickiness is just nice! This custard cream bun is for people who love overwhelmingly sweetness

I was glad that I get to taste the Chinese cruisines at The Cathay Restaurant during a lunch treat from our business partner. All dishes were served hot and smell really good!I am impressed by their cereal prawns which are crispy and juicy.Even the normal stir fried vegetable is crunchy and fresh as well. The different types of dim sums served here are also equally nice as well.Staffs here are quite attentive and friendly.Would definitely want to come back again to try their other Chinese cruisines with my love ones when I am free. It is sure a fine dining experience for me.
Cathay - a name synonymous with movies of the past era. What most people don\'t know is that Cathay actually operates a rather niche eatery in its premises which goes by the name of The Cathay Restaurant. Started in 1940, the restaurant served up European fare but switched to Chinese food in 1951 and was purportedly Singapore\'s finest Chinese restaurant at that time. Situated on the 2nd floor of the spanking new Cathay building, The Cathay Restaurant embraces the modern with its unpretentiously upclass decor yet retains his heritage by showcasing portraits of movie stars from the golden era. Retro-ish (if there\'s such a word) I must say. Doubled Boiled Shark\'s Bone Cartilage with Bamboo Fungus - I\'ve always been a fan of shark bone soup and The Cathay Restaurant\'s rendition didn\'t disappoint. But then again, it wasn\'t outstanding either. The soup was tasty but did come across as a little too milky for my liking and left a slight starchy residue on my tongue after every mouthful, which I personally found a little unsettling. Deep Fried Spring Rolls - This is not your usual spring rolls because it comes with fatty pork, mushrooms and turnip as ingredients. Found it rather normal in spite of all the ingredients, probably due to the overall blandness but the skin was nice and crisp though. Siew Mai - Interestingly, the Siew Mai had this predominant mushroom taste owing to the fact that one of the ingredients in it was a sizable chunk of mushroom. This is something rather unique but I personally found it a little too "mushroomy", totally eclipsing the traditional pork taste that I associate with Siew Mai. Just an individual preference I guess. Pan Fried Pork Chop with Special Sauce - The pork chop was very well marinated as evident by the lightly sweet flavours each bite held. However, the pork was a tad on the chewy side which made eating difficult and there was a slight overuse on the amount of Chinese celery as I found the taste pretty evident, to the extent of being a little overwhelming. Poached Seasonal Vegetables - Funny how poached seasonal vegetables would turn out to have beancurd in it. Not that I\'m complaining though. The beancurd was tasty but wasn\'t firm or silky enough to make the premium grade cut. The vegetables tasted like they had been blanched in boiling water and served up with gravy. Special Homemade Noodles with Mixed Seafood - I honestly don\'t see or taste anything special about the homemade noodles. Sure, it was chewy but that was it. Beansprouts and fresh average sized prawns graced the dish which tasted to me a little like Hor Fun due to the slightly smoky and starchy gravy. Having said that, the gravy was really too weak to make much of a difference, especially when the noodles were practically tasteless. I had to resort to adding soya sauce. Double Boiled Dried Apricot with Sea Coconut and Red Dates - If you get a kick out of having a sugar rush, then this dessert is probably for you. It was insanely sweet and I must say even for a sugar fanatic like me, I had a hard time trying to finish it. I attribute this to the extra sugar they added into the syrup on top of the sweetness from the already very sweet apricot. With a 1 for 1 offer from Standard Chartered, I only had to fork out about $55 for 2 pax, which I feel is rather reasonable given the acceptable quantity and decent quality of food. If the standard of the dim sum is anything to go by, food quality at The Cathay isn\'t exactly top notch, but its refined enough to warrant another visit. Not without a high percentage discount though.
we had lunch at this place they do sell tim sum as well but what we tried out was their fried rice as well as Steamed Snapper Fish Fillet with Chopped Chilli and Deep Fried Prawn in Golden Sauce served in Lettuce the food over there taste good the fish was fresh and soft~ prawn\'s sauce really nice! worth it =)

Har gau, Siew Mai, Scallop Dumpling, Custard Bun, Char Siew Bun, Deep fried beanskin roll, deep fried prawn with banana, egg tarts, spinach dumpling. The dim sum served here was good and fresh. Affordable and good dim sum makes me really happy! =D For more photos and details: http://eugeniegene.tumblr.com/post/14810509871/dim-sum-the-cathay-restaurant
Brought the whole family down for Fathers\' Day lunch and ordered dim sum for everyone. We ordered almost all their dim sum items and they were all good. Not OMG-excellent but good nevertheless. We had Fried Prawn Toast, Prawn Rice Roll, Char Siew Rice Roll, XO Carrot Cake, Beanskin Roll, Steamed Prawn Dumpling, Pan Fried Rice Roll, Spicy Prawn Dumpling, BBQ Pork Bun, Xiao Long Bao, Lotus Leaf Rice, Steamed Pork Ribs, Spinach Dumplings, Gyoza, BBQ Pork Pastry, Steamed Chicken Feet, Fish Porridge, Century Egg Porridge, Stewed Fish & Bitter Gourd beehoon. Service is prompt and polite so that\'s nice. We were a large table of 14 and tucked away in a corner of the restaurant. It was quiet and exclusive feeling but we were not forgotten by the service staff so that\'s worthy of mention.
Quality Chinese Cruisines can be found at The Cathay Restaurant located inside The Cathay Building.TIll now, there isn\'t any dishes served here that are not up to my expectation.Would like recommend one of their signature dish: Cathay Crispy Roasted Chicken. The chicken meat is very tender and skin is not too oily and crispy.Garnished with shredded deep fried sea weed, it really taste special and yummy!Currently they also have ala-carte buffet dinner available daily too.My verdict: 8/10
Dim Sum at The Cathay Restaurant is always fantastic. They serve really good dim sum such as their signature cream yolk buns, rice rolls, egg tarts, fried carrot cake with XO sauce and many more. My favourite is the cream yolk bun, it’s really delicious when the cream yolk ooze out from the bun. On average it costs around $20 per person for lunch.

Heard about it all this while but never tried till my colleagues brought me there for lunch. Almost immediately, I fell in love with this place. It became my favourite hangout - The Cathay Restaurant and would bring my colleagues there for lunch.

Totally fell in love with the place, looks posh and expensive but don't be deceived... because the food is real cheap.

30% discount on weekdays lunch. We ordered many different choices of Dim Sum and it costs only around $14 per pax. Each item comes in 3 pieces each.

Wide variety of food. Siew mai, bbq pork bun, yolk custard bun, egg tart, century egg porridge and fried carrot cake etc.

Service was good, staff kept coming over to pour the tea for us. We ordered the chinese tea.

Crowd was pack during lunch as the price is attractive.
