Getting to Know the Motorola Rokr E8

By: Mark Hirst

The ROKR E8 has brought a lot of eagerness for many curious music phone fanatics. It is starting to be known as the morphing phone as the keypad changes depending on the need of the user. Here is a quick overview of what to expect from this candy bar device.

The mobile phone is definitely fashionable. Its look is catchy with a glossy plastic front finish and a neat metal back. It measures at 115 x 53 x 10.6 mm. It is generally wide but boasts a wafer-thin profile. It doesn't weigh much at only 100 grams.

Let's check out its exterior. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top end. Its plastic cap cover is not connected to the phone. You can remove the cover if you want to attach a headset on the jack. Its right hand side has a slider key that activates or locks the keypad. The volume controller is at its left next to it is the voice button, with the ability to enable voice dialing and prompt sound recording depending on the menu the user is in.

If it is on stand by mode, you won't be able to see its keypad, a trait that makes it really unique. Mind you, the keypad is the most popular part of the phone. Its keypad morphs depending on the requirement of the current menu you are in. If you need to type a message, it will reveal the conventional number keys with the designated letters. If you switch it to play music, the keypad will change to player controls. This so called ModeShift technology allows the handset to activate the needed keys that a particular application requires.

In terms of audio quality, the ROKR E8 probably offers the best. It provides good volume and high sound quality. It can definitely compete with the stand alone music players in the market today.
