Blackberry had long waited to get into the mass market and not just confine its popularity in the business sect. And thus, comes the revolutionary Blackberry Pearl 8100. The phone has all the advantages of a typical blackberry device, and only becomes more desirable with its added multi-media features and compact design.
Blackberry Pearl 8100 is a stylish phone. The device is clad in a piano black gloss finish, and the sides are covered in a dark silver / pewter coloured metal finish. Despite the two extra column of keypad keys, the phone looks quite compact due to its colour scheme. It measures only 107 mm x 50 mm x 15mm.
Blackberry Pearl 8100 comes with an innovative trackball - "Pearl" that gives the device its name. The Pearl's backlit trackball is good to feel, and is easily spun in any direction it is needed.
Blackberry Pearl 8100 comes with something that Blackberry has never done before - support for playing audio and video, and a camera . The quality of audio player is good and pretty much does everything that an Mp3 player would do. Though the video cannot really handle heavy MPEG -4 video. The phone has a 1.3 Megapixels camera along with a built-in flash and digital zoom. But sadly, Pearl can only take still photos and not help you make a movie.
Apart from the aforesaid, offers its popular "push" email services, Microsoft office and a descent web browser. Like all smartphones, Pearl too comes with a suite of Personal Information Management (PIM) application, that acts like an organiser with address book, calendar and to-do-list. The phone also comes with a Bluetooth to connect you to a variety of accessories through a wireless.
Undoubtedly, the Blackberry Pearl 8100 is a huge step forward for RIM. But it still needs a little brush up in order to stay in the dynamic market of mobile phones.
