Sony Ericsson J120i Review

By: Mark Hirst

For a simplistic phone in a classy package, you can't do much better than the Sony Ericsson J120i. It is compact, slim and light in weight so it's easy to carry along no matter where you go. The entire weight is 75 grams which includes the battery. The case measures 17 mm by 99 mm by 44 mm wide. The case is best described as sleek, with a night black colour.
The display screen is STN type and has a resolution of 96 by 64 pixels. The user is provided with a menu system that uses a single icon. Navigation and text input are both easy when the navigation tool, the call keys and the user keypad are large in size.

The J120i is similar in concept to the Sony Ericsson J110i which seeks to provide a phone that is includes only the basic and essential features, yet is stylish in design.
The Sony Ericsson J120i has a text message service so that the user can communicate with users of other mobile phones. The nice factor here is that there is a long text input capability so that the text length doesn't need to be restricted before transmittal. Another nice feature related to the text message service is the predictive text capability. This feature cuts down on the number of clicks required to type a word.
The network is dual band 900/1800 Mhz at the launch date of February 2007. The display is STN type with 65K colour and 96 by 64 pixels resolution. There are themes and wallpapers available to dress up the display if desired.
A 16 Channel polyphonic ringtones type with vibration feature included is standard.
You can record up to 200 entries in the phonebook and automatically store call records for 10 dialed, and 20 missed and received calls.

Messaging is SMS, and the mobile phone includes games. It also includes an FM radio with RDS, T9, a calculator and a reminder feature. Built in handsfree allows you to safely use the mobile phone while driving.
A long-lived standard battery of the Li-Ion type provides up to 400 hours of standby time before recharging is required.
