The Greek goddess Aphrodite is known as a symbol of beauty, love, and irresistibility. True to its name, Aphrodite Bar and Restaurant seeks to bring out these qualities in the dishes that it serves. Located in the snazzy Klub Rasuna, just off Jl. H.R Rasuna Said, its excellent location has made it a hot favourite among expatriates who frequent the area. The relaxed ambience, coupled with a selection of international, Asian and local delights, make it the perfect watering hole for those looking for a new night-time hangout.

• The Vibe
  Aphrodite has a somewhat incongruous theme. Aside from the Greek mythology influences, which are apparent in the Greek statues peppering the restaurant, most notably a life-sized one of Aphrodite, the premises also boasts a collection of trophies garnered at pool tournaments and rugby matches. Patrons may sit at the high tables or at the two bar counters, or at the other tables lining the sides of the restaurant. Two well-maintained pool tables are situated at one corner, testament to the fact that Aphrodite is a popular spot for billiards lovers. Plasma televisions hang from the walls, making that soccer match easy to catch for regular diners.

• The Food
  In concordance with its Greek theme, Aphrodite's menu has some items termed “Aphrodisiac Suggestions” which change monthly. Cheekily named, the recommendations include starters(“Start me up”), desserts(“Until I can do no more) among others. There is also a Ladies' Night promotion every Thursday and Saturday, during which the fairer sex gets free flow of drinks from 8pm-12am.

  For a delectable start to your meal, or a light main course, order the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast. Generously-portioned, the dressing is delicious, while the good sprinkling of croutons give the salad a nice crunch. The accompanying bread slices are a tad too hard, though.

  Those not in the mood for vegetables can should definitely go for the Pick and Mix steak, which allows you to choose your cut of steak(i.e tenderloin, sirloin etc), doneness, side dish, and even accompanying sauce. It will delight diners hungry for that perfect steak. The tenderloin is tender and juicy, and the side of mashed potatoes, surprisingly tasty.

  Craving for something local? Try the Nasi Goreng, done Aphrodite style. Served in a keropok shell, the fragrant rice is satisfying comfort food. However, the keropok shell was somewhat soft, suggesting that it might have been left in the open for a while.

• The Service
  It is initially difficult to get the staff's attention. However, once this is done, they are helpful and willing to attend to your needs.

The SD Food Advisor's Take on Aphrodite Bar and Restaurant:
Named the number one Sports Bar for 2004/2005, it is easy to see why Aphrodite attracts a steady stream of patrons. The lively atmosphere and good food are its main draws, and the restaurant is very often packed on Ladies' Nights and weekends. Also, Aphrodite offers a banquet service, and can cater for private functions either on the premises or outside, by the pool. With such an all-rounded approach, success is inevitable.
