Communications
Indonesia has a very good communication links to the world by two communication satellites, along with International Direct Dialing (IDD) and Home Country Direct (HCD) in all leading hotels. Overseas calls can easily made at any number of state run telephone offices (wartel) located at many convenient locations, including in all major Airports.
Public telephones are located throughout the city. Although some coin telephones are still in operation, most telephones designed to accept “phone cards” which can be purchased at all hotels and numerous kiosks.

Electricity
Electricity is 220 volts/50 cycles. Standard outlets are plugs with two rounded pins.

Dress
Dress is generally informal in Indonesia due to warm, humid climate. People generally always neatly attired in business environment and fashion conscious. For business meeting, accepted attire is a long-sleeved shirt with tie, and trousers. Long sleeved batik or hand-woven shirts are suitable for evening functions. For women, suits, dresses or blouses with skirts or trousers are fine. Shorts or halter-top should wear only at sport facilities or on the beach.

Currency and Credit Cards
Indonesia currency is denominated in Rupiah and freely convertible. Major world currencies and travelers checks easily converted to or from Indonesian Rupiah at all major hotels. Notes come in 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 rupiah denominations. Exchange rates are somewhat more favorable at local banks, and better still at money-changing offices. At the time of writing, US$ I is equal to about Rp. 9,000.
Major international credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club) are widely accepted in Jakarta. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are available throughout the city.

Tipping
Major hotels add 21% service and government tax to bills. Where not included, a tip of 10% is satisfactory. Tipping taxi driver is not a mandatory, but “rounding up” your fare to the nearest Rp. 5,000 is a good practice.
