HSBC Treetop Walk would be best for those who are fit for a good 11km hike and isn't acrophobia.
Located in the forest of
MacRitchie Reservoir, the first Singapore's reservoir, built in the 1860s. Back in the olden days, the
MacRitchie Reservoir was a cultivation crops like gambier, pepper, rubber and a land of timber by the Chinese planters. Now only rubber trees and remnants of the plantations can still be seen along the borders around
MacRitchie. The forest around the reservoir was protected as a water catchment reserve.
Take a walk on the wooden boardwalks and trails skirting on the edge of the
MacRitchie Reservoir and through the forest. Distances for these walks are ranging from 3 km to 11 km, but to get to the
HSBC Treetop is a long walk, for about a 4 to 5 hours of walking. This can be considered to some, a moderate or difficult walk. You will come to explore of interesting freshwater wildlife, interesting plants such as the pitcher plants and the fascinating Ant plant.
After a tiresome walk of 5 km in the forest, you will get to the highlight of the hiking routes in
MacRitchie. This 250m and 27 metres suspension bridge high connects to 2 highest points which is the Bukit Pierce and Bukit Kalang. The traffic on this bridge is only one way and is restricted to only 30 people on it.
The walk on the bridge offers you a magnificent bird's eye view of the plants and animals that live in the canopy. At your very eye level you will get to see the lively high life of the forest.
Too tiring for you? Well, take a shortcut accessible from Venus Drive off
Upper Thomson Road. This shortcut route is only an hour's walk approximately 2.5km.
