Banrock Station |
Description The vineyard has been developed from 13 hectares in 1994 to 239 hectares consisting of 17 varieties, including the Mediterranean grapes Montepulciano, Tinta Cao, Touriga and Tinta Mole. The vineyard is managed using best-pratice techniques. Irrigation is used only as necessary, indicated by moisture probes in the soil. Gradual conversion to sub-surface irrigation and vineyard-wide mulching both reduce the amount of supplementary watering required. In 2002 the Banrock Station vineyard achieved the International Environmental Management System Accreditation, ISO 14001. |
Charlotte Street |
Description Charlotte Street fruit is harvested in the cool of the night to retain fresh fruit characteristics. Varieties are handled and fermented separately to optimize each varietal expression. Careful controlled fermentation conditions in stainless steel tanks enable the wine to retain fruit freshness. Post ferment, the varieties are carefully blended to achieve the resulting wine style. |
