At a Typical Tuition Centre

• 12-20 students are cramped into a small room with rows and rows of tables and chairs.
• Lessons consist of doing worksheets and memorising the steps to arrive at the answers, essentially a one-way ‘downloading’ and spoon-feeding session.
• Worksheets created by staff or freelance ‘consultants’ who may not be trained in curriculum development. Some tuition centres even use off-the-shelf assessment books purchased from book stores!
• Teachers are usually not NIE-trained, and may be tertiary students or working adults tutoring on a part-time basis.
• Little or no attempt is made to ensure that every student in the class understands the subject concepts and apply them appropriately.

• All curriculums and lesson plans are developed and taught by NIE-trained teachers. The lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive to enhance the learning process.
• Modern and conducive environment ideal for learning with good-sized classrooms of at least 400 sq ft each to facilitate practical activities and group discussion. We recognize that a cramped and overcrowded physical environment has a negative impact on students and inhibits the learning process.

• Well-equipped Science Lab where students are able to carry out a wide range of investigative studies and experiments themselves, enabling them to better understand and appreciate the scientific concepts.
• Integrated curriculums for languages covering grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, oral and composition, unlike most tuition centres where the writing module is optional or separate. We believe students cannot learn languages effectively without being able to write well.
• No rote learning! We adopt the inquiry-based learning approach to nurture students’ higher order thinking and analytical skills, unlike traditional forms of tutoring where students are made to memorize information from teaching materials.

Many children do not put into practice what they have learnt at NLP camps or programmes. At Ace Academy, frequent coaching sessions and regular follow-ups ensure that students continue to apply NLP tools in their studies, with consistent review of the theories to help them cultivate the good habits and behaviours of winners.
