Sometimes in life... almost always... we do what we have to do so that we can do what we want to do.
We pay the Internal Revenue Service so that we can have peace of mind and live our lives. We work a job that we loathe so we can go out later and get drunk or do whatever it is that we like to do. We work a second job so that our kids can go to college and have braces on their teeth or whatever.
Those who don't do this lead sad lives because, unless they got first prize in the gene pool and ended up a son of a rich bastard or the president of the United States, then they never do get to do those things that they want to do. And to be honest with you, I think the same principle applies no matter how high you are on the food chain.
What does this have to do with the price of tea in China or the price of gas in the USA?
Most people these days are having to work harder to buy less and make sacrifices including lessen their activities that they want to do because the price of gas is getting factually prohibitive, not to mention that one now has to pay $9 to see an 80 minute flick!
So what is it that one has to do if one wants to be able to do what one wants to do(?)
One has to get creative and be courageous.
It is not only the hard workers that survive.
In fact, many times the hard workers don't survive so well. It is a cruel universe we live in.
But survival has a lot to do with intelligence, awareness, power of observation and being willing to take chances or step outside of the mold that society fits us into.
Just because your father, and his father before him knew that if they wanted to drive a car then they needed to have gas in their gas tank does not mean that it is still true.
There are other alternatives.
There is such a thing as cultural lag and sometimes even the most survival and sanest of ideas don't get picked up in the main stream for years or even generations... just ask Congressman Ron Paul! He has been speaking the same message about non interventionism, sound monetary policy, the federal income tax, the rule of law, small government, etc for over 20 years in Congress and now, all of a sudden, he is an overnight political sensation and folk hero.
Anyway, here is an idea on how you can save money on gas and get to do the things that you want to do.
Fully or partially convert your gas engine to a water engine! If you make a partial conversion you might get 1/3rd better gas mileage . If you do a full conversion then you are looking at never having to pay a penny or pump a gas pump ever again. This is something that you have to do if you want to more easily be able to do what you want to do.
Average Price Of Fuel
Many Canadian travellers will find it more economical to vacation closer to home this year. The already high cost of air travel has substantially increased due to higher fares, tariffs, and the introduction of fuel surcharges. Long distance car trips have also become much more expensive since the price of a tank of gas has skyrocketed. Further, market analysts are predicting that gas prices will continue to rise over the summer. The summer vacation plans of many Canadians are certain to be affected by the rising cost of long distant travel.
Some of Ontario's most prominent associations of resort owners and operators are keeping a close eye on the market trends and are providing its members with detailed industry surveys and reports. Traditionally, many Canadians have used their summer holidays to take major trips, travelling overseas or taking long road trips to destinations in the U.S. or to Canada's east or west coasts. However, some of these resort associations are forecasting that the soaring gas prices and airline fuel surcharges may convince Canadians to forgo air travel and lead them to vacation in their own province. This development may be good news for Ontario's resort operators, especially for hospitality and tourism properties in Southern Ontario and Central Ontario, located within a couple hours drive of the over 5.5 million people living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Ontario resorts have witnessed a decline in American visitors over the past few years. The low U.S. dollar in relation to the high flying Loonie, as well as the weak American economy and high gas prices, will keep even more Americans at home this year. Additionally, numerous Canadians will also be sticking closer to home this summer, due to rising travel costs. Many Ontario resort operators see this as an opportunity. An Ontario resort holiday is the perfect alternative for vacationers who want a summer holiday, but don't want to drive a great distance or to fly to get there. Some of member resorts are even offering customers incentives to further reduce the price of vacationing, such as summer gas discounts and rebates.
The tourism industry in the province of Ontario has undergone a number of challenges over the past few years. Today, the Canadian dollar remains high in relation to many other currencies. This, combined with a slow down in some foreign economies and the rising price of gasoline, will further reduce the number of American and International tourists coming into the province. In addition, baby boomer demographics have resulted in an increasing empty nester and senior travel market while the traditional family unit summer vacation has slowed with the children of the baby boom generation off to university or starting work and establishing their own family units. Clearly, the climate of business is changing. Those in Ontario's tourism and travel industry may find it necessary to change their advertising focus to attract the large market of potential customers that is already on their doorstep.
