For those people that love to go on vacations to different places, excursions to beautiful beaches, and taking a trip to the most exotic holiday locations, it is the travel agent that we seem to rely on to provide us with the best vacation possible. To the travel, the travel agent is almost a Godsend sometimes. Many inexperienced travelers wonder what they would ever do without the travel agents. However, because of the internet a travel agent's work as steadily decreased.
Today, many people can plan their entire vacation, purchase their tickets, book their cars and even make their reservations through the internet. Because of that, many most financial analysts have said that while the needs of travel agents go down, so do their wages, as well. In fact, the average salary of a travel agent in 2002 was $26,000. However, it also depends on where you live as well as your experience!
When it comes down to it, travel agents are not making that much money; however, they do get discounts and special privileges on traveling as benefits. Even with those benefits, many travel agents can't even use them because they can't afford to travel! Most families choose to travel around the holidays so are in need of a travel agent at that time of year, making it difficult for the travel agent to take vacations of their own then.
Even with the poor pay, there are still people that want to become a travel agent! If you are persistent of becoming a travel agent, here are some tips for you!
Make sure you know how to speak at least 2 different languages as you will deal with many nationalities. More and more we are seeing people from other countries enter our country bringing with them a foreign language. The schools are even teaching more foreign languages than ever before. Make sure you get all the training you need; as you will need it for any job. Keep up to date on any training you may need. Customers need to feel that you know what you are doing. Get all the education you can on the computer, you will need it for all of the transactions, invoicing, and any reports. Keep being updated on all the trends of the business. Also, it is very important that you know all the best locations for traveling. Get your certificate as a Certified Travel Counselor; it is an extra value when getting a job.
When becoming a travel agent, it is all up to the person's interest; and not more. So, if the person is happy at what he/she is doing, the pay should not matter!

Yes, I am a workaholic and my wife is sick and tired of not having routine yearly vacations, or, well, any vacations at all. After being married almost 10 years and not taking my wife on a nice vacation had her very frustrated and that along with my work habits were pushing her towards finding a new husband. I knew I had to make a commitment and a change before I lost her. I made a vow to her that I would make a commitment of change and to start the ball rolling I would schedule at least one luxury vacation per year for us to get away.
As I looked for vacation destinations and resort packages through our local travel agency I realized that unless I made some serious life changes this quest and commitment I promised my wife wasn't going to be financially possible unless we stayed at the motel 6 in an exotic location. After exploring other options for a week or so my research led me to start looking into timeshares to cut some dollars from our yearly vacation expense. It would be an upfront cost of about 13K but save a bundle in the long run. After a little more research and my wallet clenched tightly I realized that we would be dramatically limited to the weeks we could book, the yearly upkeep and maintenance fees were almost a thousand bucks and we wouldn't have a huge potential to stay at different locations from year to year.
I was discouraged to say the least but gave it one more search on the net. I happened to stumble across a website called resortbomb.com. I was very intrigued, this was a luxury resort membership with resorts and 5 star hotels to book from all around the world at the same cost to members as a cheap hotel (about 3-500 bucks a week) for a one time, lifetime membership cost of only 3K (you can even will this thing to your kids). I was a bit leery at first but then after reading through all of the information realized that they have been doing credible business since 1986. When I contacted the representative he was also very helpful and supplied the answers to all of my questions. My wife and I immediately put our membership to work and booked a solid 8 days of luxury in beautiful Puerto Vallarta for less than 600 bucks ?Yes, that's for the whole 8 days!?. All I can say is amazing.
We are already planning our next trip to Cancun for 09? and my wife has never been happier. We may even take advantage of one of their ?Hot Weeks? in between our yearly vacation. These are usually less than 295 bucks for the week, the only down fall is that you have limited choice of the destination, but for that weekly cost ?who cares?. I am also thoroughly enjoying the golf discounts that come along with it.
Just when I thought my luck couldn't get any better and you probably thought this story couldn't get any better something exceptional happened. I was talking with some of our friends about this thing and they decided they wanted to check it out for themselves, you know how it works ?The keeping up with the Jones's thing?. I had them visit the same site (www.resortbomb.com) and get with the same agent. The following week I got a call from Ed (the resort bomb guy) and he was calling to thank me for the referrals. I just appreciated the call and let him know that with an awesome product like that and the unsurpassed service I would be talking to many others about it as well. He said great but I also called to teach you a little more about your membership. He said, O.K, here's the deal. When you purchase a platinum lifetime membership that gives you the distribution capability to sell these packages for 500 to 1000 bucks commission a piece and you can sell as many as you want! I had already sent three people in three people in that bought these things and nearly paid for my membership and didn't even know it. Sure enough the fed ex guy delivered me a fat check the very next week. Sweet!
That's it; I just wanted to let you know the unlucky guy gets a break once in a while! Happy vacationing and good luck on your travels.
