I can still remember having a cold in the winter, (back before Global Warming!) and sitting in front of the wood burning stove, with my Grandma in the kitchen cooking up some of her home made chicken soup. All the while I am cozily bundled up in my super soft fleece blanket, kleenex box in one hand, waiting patiently for that yummy soup of health and goodness...
When you have kids, you'll want to pass along this special gift to them and even for their kids, just like your grandparents' did back when you were a kid. So what should you look for in a fleece blanket? Hopefully this article will help.
What kind of fleece blanket will your child or grandchild like? Well, this is a hard one. You'll need to figure out what is popular in the culture or choose some common theme. Do they like cowboys or dogs or cats? Or if Mom or Dad are in the military perhaps, how about a military themed blanket like a Marine Corp Logo, or an Army Eagle? Or how about a favorite carton character? Almost every kid loves firefighters, so maybe that is the right choice?! You'll want to choose just the right one for them.
Ok, so now you have chosen a theme or character or logo. What else will you need to know? Well for one, you'll want to know what it is made of and how to clean it. Most are made from polyester polar fleece and can be washed just like regular clothes in the washer and dryer. This is good to know cause we all know how clean kids are.... NOT! Being washable is of uber-importance for the next time they accidentally drop the sippy cup filled with orange juice on it!
Fleece blankets are absolutely fantastic for insulation. This is what keeps us so warm when wearing them. I can remember having a fleece winter's cap in the winter and it felt just so fantastic, that I don't ever remember feeling cold growing up in the North East. The fleece weave is what makes them so soft and fluffy and warm.
Fleece blankets have been around for a long time and are a long-standing family tradition. In the past, most grandmas would sew them, but you'd be hard pressed to find anybody now who even knows HOW to make one. I don't think my mom knows how to do much more than latch hook!
Do you even OWN a sewing machine? Is Singer even still around? Instead of learning how to make these super soft fleece blankets, start letting your kids / grandkids have that warm and fuzzy feeling of warmth that they'll carry with them for a lifetime just like the memories we carry to this day.
Bring Back That Feeling
- with apologies to the Righteous Brothers
As a baseball guy, I like to watch other sports for tips on baseball coaching, mental toughness, and confidence.
I watched Apollo Ono win the 500m short track speed skating gold in the last Winter Olympics. I could see the electricity rocket through his system after he crossed the line. Fists clenched, arm muscles fired, and a primal yell erupting from just above that ridiculous patch of hair on his chin.
We can only imagine what that winning feelin is like. But you know, that's not so bad. Our imagination is extremely powerful.
I'll bet if I said I'd give you a million bucks if you could right now generate the emotion he felt at that moment you could get pretty close. How would you do it?
You'd stand up, jump up and down a few times, clench your fists, fire all the muscles in your arms and legs, and let loose a primal yell. At the same time you'd visualize your winning the million dollars, or cashing in huge on some stock deal, or getting a date with Paris Hilton (or whatever would really set you off).
Keep doing these things -- I mean for real doing them, no holds barred -- for one minute and you'd be pretty close, don't you agree? You'd certainly be pumped up, you'd certainly be excited.
Would you like to feel that way? Then do what I prescribed above. Your psychological and emotional state can be changed two ways, known as the 2 F's change your Focus and your Fisiology. I know that word is misspelled, but 2 F's is easier to remember than F and a P.
Cutting to the punch line: Do you play better when you feel confident? If so, bring back that winning feelin, by focusing on times when you've felt it before. Replay it in your mind. What you focus on you feel. If you want to bring back that winning feelin, move your body (fisiology) the way you move it when you have that winning feelin.
Go for the gold today. Generate that Righteous winning feelin right now using your 2 F's and go into your day with that confident, positive energy. The alternative is to sit back and simply hope it comes. If that's your approach, you're more likely to cross your finish line today pounding your fist into the ground in defeat than you are pumping that fist up into the air in victory.
