Bringing Home A Cat

    View:
To be able to have a good experience with any pet there are a few things to consider before bringing them home. The first thing is the lifestyle of both you and the cat. It is important for the cat to be happy as well as you. Can you afford a cat? Your cat can not go without food or cat litter even for just one day. It's important to think about the real costs of pet ownership. When you decide a cat is the right pet for you the next questions are what breed of cat and where to get your new pet.

A pet needs care on a daily basis. You can not leave your cat alone for the weekend because it has to be fed, let out and played with. You need to examine your lifestyle and decide if a cat will fit in and be happy. An unhappy cat will make you unhappy by looking for your attention doing things like clawing and peeing on furniture. The cats needs are as important as yours.

Can you afford a cat? There are costs involved in pet ownership that you may have not thought about. Such as vet bills and medicine if the cat gets hurt or falls ill. Going to a Vet can cost as much as a you seeing a Doctor and any medicine the cat may need may be expensive as well. You should make a list of the things a cat needs every month like food and cat litter then find out what it will all cost and if you can afford it.

Buying a cat of a specific breed from a reputable breeder can help to assure that you get a healthy animal. You should research both the breed and the breeder thoroughly. Some breeds require more care than others, for example long haired cats need to be brushed more. Also the cost varies greatly between both different breeds and also between different breeders. Another good option is getting your cat from a pet shelter. They have many cats that need a good home at a low cost if any.

Cats have a lot of personality and are a good choice for a pet. If you think through what you want from a pet and what the pet needs both you and your cat will be happy in the end. Pick a cat that will suit your lifestyle and budget. Most important always take good care of your pet.
Bringing Home A Cat
Prior to bringing the puppy home, bring your family together and have a meeting of what the rules will be for the dog and family. Write a chore list and distribute certain chores such as feeding, watering and walking the dog.

So when is the best time to start your new puppy's behavior training? As soon as possible. It will be best for the pup if it knows as soon as it arrives in your home what the rules are.

A few basic things you will need to take care of before the new member of the family joins you will be to create a comfortable place for it to sleep and eat. Also be sure to designate an area outside for it to do its business.

Once the place for the puppy to sleep, eat and toilet has been decided and the family is in agreement on each of their roles with regard to the training of the puppy you need to decide who will be in charge of the dog. Someone has to take sole responsibility to training the right behaviors while everyone else fulfills a backup role.

Repetition is key to any good training program for your dog. Always remember to praise your dog when a task is performed well and use a frown or form of disapproval to let the dog know you are not pleased.

Had your puppy been reared by its mother then she would have used growling or nipping to reprimand it when it did something she didn't like. She would not have used growling to stop her little one jumping up on the bed though. You may not want to walk around the house growling so you will need other ways.

Behavior training should be done in the moment. This means that should your puppy start to do something you don't want it to do like chew on a slipper, for instance, you will need to enforce discipline right there and then. The dog will not learn if you wait until later and then try and teach it not to chew on shoes.

Once you have a technique for disciplining then get everyone to use the same technique. This will speed up the effectiveness of the behavior training.

Having patience is imperative in order to be in control while you train your dog. The level of time spent with the dog will pay off in the long run with a well behaved and respectful animal.
