This article examines business security and provides some practical advise on protecting your business. Unfortunately as any new business knows it isn't long before opening that the first break and enter occurs or another security issue raises it ugly head. Dealing with insurance companies reveals that often the business person is own their own, particularly if the business is targetted numerous times. The more successful your business, the more interest it tends to generate amongst low lifes, and once they have struck they will be back again unless you do something about it.
In order to protect your business one of the first things you need to do is establish safe cash flow practises. This includes the basics like not leaving out large quantities of cash in tills or petty cash, ensuring you have a descent safe and/or strongroom. However it goes much further than this. Ensuring correct cashflow includes correct recording procedures with regular audits. Often one of biggest hits a company takes is when its own employee steals from the cashflow. Without tight auditing procedures an employee can easily rake up $1000's of dollars in fraud and the chance of you or your company seeing that money again is limited. Know your staff and managers, particularly avoid like the plague anyone with a drug or gambling problem. A quality camera system not only protects your staff, it also protects you, letting you know whats happening when your not there. A small investment in quality equipment can save you heartarche later. Requiring your employee to provide some basic background and criminal history has become standard fare for major corporations.
Whilst installing an alarm won't guarantee your business safety, a monitored one does limit the amount of time an offender is on premises and therefore limits potential loss.
But money security goes beyond your safe, do you have safe banking practises? If you can't afford a security company to collect money do you ensure you regularly bank takings. Bank with a varying schedule and ensure the money is disguised. Don't be so stupid as to take cash to the bank with the bank provided bags visible in your hands, you are just asking to get robbed.
Security goes beyond just money. Security is about people. Giving them safe environments in which to work and providing a safe atmosphere for your customers. You want security that whilst highly effective does not take over the running of your business, it should be in the background, visible but not overbearing.
CCTV only work if you have quality footage. There is no point having cameras unless that video quality is high. New computer systems provide a greater number of camera links with better quality than the one video tape you've recording over twenty times.
Obviously security nowdays always extends to the online world, but that is a seperate topic. For now ask yourself does your business or even home security come up to scratch?? If not what value are you placing on yourself, your family, your business, your money?
Business Security Camera Systems
ADT is probably one of the most recognized names in the United States when it comes to home and business security. Not only does this company offer security services that are appropriate to homes and businesses of all sizes they also offer monitoring services for home or business intrusions as well as monitoring services for medical emergencies.
Part of the reason that ADT is so successful is because they are quite aggressive in their sales efforts. Another reason that they are so successful is that they do have a proven track record of not only deterring intrusions simply as the result of their alarm systems but also a proven record of responding quickly to emergency situations within the home and notifying the proper authorities when necessary.
While some will argue that their sales tactics prey on peoples fears that is quite honestly what they are in the business to do. Profit from the fears of others (whether these fears are valid fears or not). The truth of the matter is that in the world in which we live, there really is no such thing as a safe neighborhood anymore. Even those that once left doors unlocked and keys in cars have now taken on a policy of serious security efforts that had been relatively ignored in the past.
Now that we've covered those aspects of home business security, let's turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.
Evil is no longer some faceless nation across the ocean it has made its way to American soil and for that reason more and more people are taking a more proactive role in securing their homes and businesses than ever before. While there are some things that no security system can really monitor or prevent there are others that are very preventable and easy to monitor.
One reason that ADT is so successful in deterring crime is that it makes home invasions inconvenient simply by being there. Most home invaders are not what one would consider craftsmen or women. They are creatures of opportunity looking for an easy way to score large. Overriding a security system or making off with serious loot in spite of ear piercing alarms is often not what the average home invader would consider an easy score. In other words, many criminals will see that there is an ADT sign in the yard or obvious indicators of a monitored alarm system and move right on to the next house on the block rather than deal with the hassles that the average security system adds to the mix.
ADT is good about letting would be invaders know that the home is protected and monitored by their system with stickers for windows and yard signs. Many families also like the fact that this type of monitoring system can also deter boyfriends or girlfriends or even best friends from making late night and often uninvited appearances. More importantly it can provide a little bit of a roadblock for errant teens trying to sneak out or back in late at night as well. These alarm systems are often much more than protecting homes and small businesses (or larger businesses) from intrusion but also in protecting them from those who live and work there as well.
If you are considering an alarm system, I would strongly encourage you to at least call ADT and allow them to give you a security risk assessment. This is performed free of charge in most areas and may clue you in to strengths and weaknesses you knew nothing about before.
So now you know a little bit about home business security. Even if you don't know everything, you've done something worthwhile: you've expanded your knowledge.
