After a long stressful day of work, most of us want and are usually seeking a way to relax and unwind. The first thing some would reach for is a nice stiff alcoholic drink, a long hot bubble bath maybe with candles or perhaps some would splurge for a professional massage. But, most of us probably wouldn't think of skateboarding. In fact, skateboarding can be quite relaxing to the body and mind.



First of all, skateboarding can be very relaxing to the body because it requires a lot of strength movement and dependability on the legs, obviously. Skateboarding is also a lot of fun, trying to keep yourself balanced while teetering on the narrow surface. But, what many may forget is that while skateboarding or even continuously trying to learn to skate, the leg movements, the moments of gliding along with the air beating against your face is actually pretty therapeutic. Not to mention, about an hour or so of this allows the body to release some pent up stress in the body. Also, as with any exercise, skateboarding is an excellent source of cardiovascular exercise. So one can unwind, strengthen their legs, heart and have fun all at the same time.

Secondly, skateboarding can be very therapeutic for the mind as well. As with any interest, there are many different techniques to maneuver from while advancing to becoming a skateboarding expert. For instance, there are numerous skateboarding tricks to follow in order to achieve the proper skateboarding therapy. While performing or learning to perform the Ollie trick, your mind first becomes completely refocuses while trying to lift your body and the skateboard off the ground simultaneously. Another trick is the Manuel trick where skateboarders try to balance themselves on their back heels while rolling along, usually on flat surfaces. This trick calms the mind and pushes all your negative thoughts to the back of the brain (or the last thoughts to enter the mind at this time). Also, the Pop Shuvit trick revitalizes the mind because you concentrate not only on popping up in the air, but turning your body either backside or frontside of the board at the same time.

Whereas, some may argue the effectiveness of how skateboarding may be therapeutic for them, at the end of the day many find it to be quite gratifying. In any event, skateboarding is an overall health-benefiting pastime. So, get out there and start your skateboarding therapy today.
