Causes Of Teen Depression

    View:
Adolescence is a difficult time when hormonal and emotional changes affect a teen's moods, thoughts, and actions. All parents of teenagers can attest to this, but sometimes the changes that some teens go through are too extreme to be normal. The causes of teen depression can vary widely, ranging from an isolated trauma, to no discernible reason at all.

Abuse, death in the family or of peers, and divorcing parents can all be causes of teen depression. Teenagers have different reactions to divorce, while some are accepting, others have problems during divorce. Statistics have shown that genetics may be one of many causes of teen depression. Though the various causes of teen depression are not always known, the necessity of treatment is never in question. The whole family is affected by teenage depression.

Things To Do

If you begin to think even for one minute that your teen is suffering from teen depression, make sure you make every effort to not leave them alone for too long of periods. Depending on how bad their depression is, until they receive help, they could be a suicide risk. This information is not meant to scare anyone but just to make sure that every parent understands that the dangers of teen depression are serious and are very real. Never think that it cannot happen to your child since the causes of teen depression are so varied and sometimes it comes without warning.

If you feel that your child is suffering from this, make sure to make an appointment with a doctor to see what can be done. If your teenager is making threats of hurting theirself or someone else, take them right away to the emergency room, as they need immediate attention. Someone who is that depressed may not be able to wait until the following week for a doctor's appointment. Try to make sure that you remain calm as you do not want to distance yourself any further from your teenager and you do not want them thinking you blame them for anything.
Causes Of Teen Depression
Teen acne is a very common condition. Teen acne can cause an extremely poor self-image, anxiety, and social inhibition. Although, teen acne is not a dangerous health risk, in severe cases it can result in some permanent scarring. Teen acne is a result of hormonal changes which is a normal part of puberty.

Most treatments concentrate on sebum production and reducing bacteria that causes acne. Exfoliating dead skin cells is also a common treatment. Beware that there can also be some side effects associated with conventional treatments. It should be mentioned that vitamin A is also a safe and natural treatment that is available. Consult your physician for any treatments that you may start.

Despite the wide spread notion that vigorous washing will clean away the oils that produce pimples, this is not true. There is no evidence that the oils contained in fatty food increase acne. The hair follicles, or pores, in your skin contain sebaceous glands (also called oil glands). These glands make sebum, which is an oil that lubricates your hair and skin. To help prevent the oil buildup that can contribute to acne, wash your face twice a day with a mild soap and warm water.

A major study conducted on acne and stress confirmed what was suspected for many years: Stress can aggravate acne among teens. Furthermore stress or lack of sleep can also cause higher levels of hormones and adrenaline, which leads to added sebum production, that results in clogged pores. It's important to educate your teen regarding these facts. Periods of high stress (just before an exam, etc.) can increase the severity of acne more than during the period of low stress, like on a weekend or vacation.

During puberty (about age 11 to 14) and throughout the teen years, increased levels of androgen hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to grow and produce more sebum. These hormones cause oil glands to become more active. These hormones are responsible for a number of things including physical and sexual development. Teen sufferers have sensitive skin and fluctuating hormones so prescription medication or drying topical ointments are a last result.

Benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid and sulfur are the most common over-the-counter medications used to treat acne. Benzoyl Peroxide kills the bacteria that causes acne. In some cases, Retin-A is used in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide. Occasionally, neither benzoyl peroxide nor Retin-A is adequate, and nodules or deep bumps of acne persist.

Early treatment of acne will increase the chances of success. In severe cases, dermatologists can dran the lesions and also offer antibiotic treatment if necessary. Taking a wait and see approach by parents is not recommended.

Many people have found that some of the best teen acne solutions can be found right inside their own homes. Another one of the major teen acne solutions is plain salt water. For example, some people swear that both fresh lemon juice and tea tree oil are great teen acne solutions. Last, but definitely not least, teenagers can always resort to the most widely used teen acne solutions: over-the counter acne medications.
