For an online business, your domain name is equivalent to the name that most people chose to give their business, like Sassy's Sweets or Computer Haven. However, unlike most businesses that you find out in the real world, your company's name needs to be able to have a domain name that will work to draw in potential clientele who you will probably never get the opportunity to meet face to face.
Another factor to consider when choosing your domain name is whether or not people are going to be able to remember it when they go to type it in. Many times people only remember part of a website's name, or they misspell it, and this can often lead them onto other sites. If a person gets lost enough times while trying to ferret out your Internet address, then chances are they aren't going to keep coming back until they get it right.
So, to avoid this potential confusion, you should try to keep your domain name as short and simple as possible. For example, if your business is going to be called Debbie's Closet of Beanie Baby Collectibles, then you might want to try using a domain name like debsbeanies or closetbeanies. A shorter, simpler domain name can make all the different sometimes in how an Internet business fairs. Also, it is important that you don't have your heart set on one specific domain name; create a list of possibilities that could work for you.
Think about how the name sounds as well. When considering whether or not to add a name to your list of possibilities consider the following questions:
* Will it go nicely on business cards and fliers?
* Is it something that people will remember?
* Does it have a catchy sound to it?
* Is it distinguishable by itself or will people be likely to get it confused with another site or service?
* Is it easy to spell and pronunciation?
Once you have narrowed your list of possible names down to a few suitable choices, then you will need to make sure that you go through and put them in order from your most favorite to your least favorite. Now, go to a site like godaddy check the availability of the names on your list. Once you reach a name that is open, you can then use the services of the site to register it as well.
Now that you have set up your businesses domain name and it is registered to you, you can begin working on building up your business by getting that domain name out into the world. Hopefully, it will work to help your clients find their way to your door.
Change The Domain Name
Hitting the domain name jackpot. There are millions of domain name buyers out there, and most of them are out to find that one special domain name which will hit the online jackpot. This article will discuss some of the catchy domain names I bought and how successful (Or Unsuccessful) I have been in promoting them.
Who will be the next Amazon? The next Overstock? The next Google? Well it seems that almost everyone is playing the domain name market, yes, even long after the domain name market supposedly hit rock bottom back in 2001. People are still buying domain names at a record pace. Why? My experience tells me that it's because everyone has that creative mind. That ability to create something unique and original. It is that unique ability of each person to create, which gives them the confidence of coming up with the domain name of domain names. The name that would catch everyone's attention and soar to the highest heights.
I came up with some brainstorms of my own. A few years ago, I purchased modern means (dot com), thinking it was a perfect name containing an oft-mentioned phrase which would be very marketable. I also purchased Scrollmart (dot com) thinking it was the perfect internet name for an online shopping site. Now those two domain names are owned by someone else, because I did not know how to announce these domain names to the world and I did not have a business which in any way related to these names. The hope was to have someone discover these names and make a modest offer. However, I did not have the wherewithal to go about promoting these names. Only recently did I discover that writing articles was indeed a very powerful way to get your name out there. I will actually be using this article as an initial step in promoting, or at least, make known my new domain name and website which may well be that jackpot domain name everyone is trying to come up with.
It has a very catchy and often used phrase which describes, you guessed it, a heck of a lot. The name itself declares that the website represented offers a lot. Now it could be a heck of a lot of toys, or a heck of a lot of games, but that would limit it's usefulness to one particular product or service. The name I came up with is tailored to cover a wide range of products. Right now it is a shopping website which offers a lot of product categories in which to shop for. This catchy domain name has a great chance to be the next http://Amazon.com or http://Overstock.com because it is very marketable. However, unless anyone knows about it, and/or unless one has enormous amounts of money to spend on marketing his or her domain name, even a catchy phrase like a heck of a lot can go completely unrecognized.
So if you are one of those domain name creators who thinks they have a very marketable and catchy domain name, make sure you do more than just submit the name to search engines and hope somebody finds you. Create articles related to your domain name's theme and submit them to online article publishers. It also would be useful to place these articles on your website to build rich content. Building article rich content on your website may very well help that jackpot domain name get noticed and then you can cash in on your creativity.
