If you are interested in becoming a MySQL professional, you should consider getting one or more MySQL Certifications. Each certification requires passing one or more exams containing about 70 multiple-choice questions. The present cost of each exam is $200 but is sometimes discounted. This exam is available through the Pearson VUE test centers located virtually across the globe.
What do you get for passing these tests? The first answer is professional recognition. While certification does not prove that you can really perform on the job, doing the hard, hard work of certifying can help you prepare for the real world. Let's be frank. If you only know your stuff on paper, you won't know what to do on the job. Before long you'll be pounding the pavement. In a community like certified MySQL professionals the word spreads fast.
In this article we look at your choices for MySQL Certifications. Companion articles will discuss each of these certifications in more detail. The CMA (Certified MySQL Associate) is an entry-level certification, designed for people who are relatively new to using the MySQL database server. This certification covers basic SQL and basic database management system concepts. This certification is not a prerequisite to the other MySQL certifications. However, many people new to MySQL start with CMA certification before going to the more advanced certifications. It's up to you.
The CMDEV (Certified MySQL Developer) is targeted at candidates who will be developing applications using MySQL as back-end storage. It is issued to those who pass both the Certified MySQL Developer-I and Certified MySQL Developer-II exams. You may take either of these two exams first; they cover different but complementary material.
The CMDBA (Certified MySQL Database Administrator) is targeted at database administrators who are responsible for tuning, planning, and optimizing data layout for one or several servers and who do not write many applications. It is issued to those who pass both the Certified MySQL DBA-I and Certified MySQL DBA-II exams. You may take either of these two exams first; they cover different but complementary material. The CMCDBA (Certified MySQL Cluster Database Administrator) requires that you first obtain the CMDBA certification and then pass a single exam associated with a very specific aspect of MySQL technology. You can be a professional MySQL database administrator and never deal with the material covered by this exam.
There are a wide variety of tracks to prepare for any and all of these certifications. For example, Sun MySQL offers books and classes at every level. Take my advice, don't sign up for anything more expensive than a book until you download MySQL and spend some serious time trying it out. One thing is sure; if you want to pass the test you must run MySQL hour after hour, day after day. If you don't like that do something else.
Does Getting Your Ears Pierced Hurt
Without our ears we would have difficulty carrying on conversations and would not be able to listen to some of the greatest musical works of art that have been produced. Okay, we would not be able to listen to any music at all if we did not maintain our hearing. For some professions, such as a sonar operator, a good sense of hearing is essential, but for most of us, we merely need to be able to hear well enough to listen to and respond to our daily conversations.
One of the most common cause of hearing loss is listening to music too loudly. This is the preferred method among youth and people who prefer to listen to heavy metal music, but repeatedly exposing yourself to sound volume of one hundred decibels causes nerve damage and may cause eventual hearing loss. Turn the music down is not just a phrase older people shout out to annoy you – loud music really is harmful to teenagers.
In situations where the sound is likely to be above one hundred decibels for an extended period of time ear plugs are often issued to workers. It's a good idea, not only does it reduce background noise, it also prevents the full level of noise from being heard. Ear plugs come in two types – soft ones that fit in the ear canal and hard ones which fit over the ear. Whether they are designed to absorb sound or reflect sound, they do not render the person deaf, merely bring the background noises down to a manageable level.
The next thing to remember to maintain good ear health is not to stick anything in the ear canal. Cleaning products such as Q-tips or the occasional and far grosser method of sticking a rubber pencil eraser in your ear may collect ear wax, but the ear wax serves as a coating to help and protect the ears. Using a Q-tip to clean off excess ear wax on the outside of the ear is acceptable, but never put anything into the canal.
Sometimes our hearing deteriorates as we age, a hearing aid can help continue the conversation, but it cannot restore the ability that already has been lost. Having your ears checked once or twice a year is enough to ensure that your sense of hearing is in good working order and spot any potential problems.
