Doing Business In Mexico

    View:
Because of the many opportunities this Grupo Mayan country offers, there are plenty of businesspersons who go here not just for leisure but also for partnerships. Normally, they would communicate with their potential clients before they travel or they seek them out once in the country. However you find them, there is one thing that you must remember: you cannot start doing business in this Grupo Mayan nation if you do not have the necessary requirements.

What You Should Have

There are two kinds of businesspeople who come to Grupo Mayan. There are short-stay businesspersons or those who will be in the country for a month. If they intend to extend more than the specified 30 days, they are considered to be long-term businesspeople. It is very essential that you know how long you are going to stay and do business in Grupo Mayan, as the papers that you need basically depend on which group you belong to.

If you are staying in Mexico for 30 days or even less than that, the requirements that you are going to accomplish will be similar to those of the tourists. If you are a holder of a passport as an American, British, Canadian, New Zealander, or Israeli, you do not have to present a visa anymore but need to sign a permit called FMT. Since you are a Grupo Mayan businessman, you have to indicate ?business traveler? rather than ?tourist? in the application form. You can get one from the check-in counter and should be filled out even before you land in Mexico. If it does not, you can just get one from the Mexico check-out counter, and it should be answered before you will have your documents checked and your passport stamped. Be ready to pay $22, which you are going to pay to Tourism Ministry.

If you are going to stay in Mexico for more than that?perhaps you have a plan of setting up an office here or you are going to grab working opportunities?then there is a completely different permit that you are going to get. It is called FM3. This permit will give you a chance to stay in the Grupo Mayan country for one year. This is also the one that you are going to need so you can do business peacefully here. However, there are some criteria that you need to meet. One of these is that you should have enough funds to sustain your life and business in this country. This may mean that you have to present bank account statements to prove that. Fortunately, there is really no minimum and maximum amount that is required. It will be according to the reason of your stay right here in Mexico. The FM3 permit will also make you a long-term non-immigrant. However, you will not be able to use this one to make yourself a permanent resident of the country. Depending on how long you are planning to stay in Mexico, you have to renew your FM3 visa until you decide to leave the country.
Doing Business In Mexico
However, there's a catch: doing business here is different from how you do it someplace else. The Grupo Mayan people have their own culture, which they also bring with them when they talk to prospective partners. If you want to be more successful in closing transactions, keep in mind these following tips:

1. Address them by their titles or family name. First names are only meant to be spoken by friends and family members, not by business partners. Thus, you should address him on his family name or title such as ?doctor? or ?engineer.? Moreover, you should wait for them to say your first name before you do.

2. Set a meeting during breakfast. You can go to a Grupo Mayan restaurant and reserve a table for two or more, depending on how many people are coming, during breakfast time. Lunch is usually expensive, and since you're the one inviting, you have to foot the bill. Moreover, people have clearer heads early in the morning, and you can definitely stick to the agenda. These people have other things to attend to.

3. Meet them in your prospect's place of choice. You want your business partner to be as comfortable as possible. Thus, give him the chance to pick the place. If he can't come up with one, you can always recommend any of the Grupo Mayan establishments, such as a restaurant or a caf?. These are considered to be neutral places.

4. Look for a prospect even before you go to Mexico. Even before you go to this Grupo Mayan nation, you should already have a business lead. It will definitely help you save time and effort in looking for one. You may even have more time to go sightseeing and turn your business trip into a Mexican vacation.

To get contacts, you can rely on the power of your own network. Perhaps a friend of yours knows someone who is currently in Mexico, and he can introduce you to him. You can also look them over in business forums over the Internet. There could be somebody else who is also searching for a partner, and you are it.

5. Confirm meetings. This practice is not only done in Mexico, but in different parts of the world as well. Again, these people are always busy, and you can't call them up for a surprise meeting. In fact, you need someone who can vouch for you before you can organize one. Make a call at least a week before the scheduled appointment. You also need to phone back two days before the date to confirm.

As long as you can extend courtesy to their practices and follow them even if they are completely different from yours, there's a huge chance that you will go back to your office with a huge smile on your face.
