Sticking to a budget is hard enough, but malls, outlets and grocery stores don't make it any easier; with countless promotions, sales, and strategically-placed impulse-buy items, it's easy to get sidetracked and overspend. Willpower and discipline are great tools to combat overspending, but many people find it hard to maintain them when faced with a great sale. Never fear, there are a few simple tricks and tips you can use to help keep you on track and overcome the temptation to overspend.
1.Always take a list.
While seemingly simple, and even obvious, this is a great way to help keep spending on track. If you have a specific list of items you need, you can shop with more purpose, and avoid unnecessary browsing (which all too often leads to unnecessary buying).
2.Consolidate shopping trips.
Whenever possible, it's best to combine all your shopping into one day. This is a great way to make sure you don't spend extra time in a given store, browsing unnecessarily, or getting sidetracked from your pre-set shopping agenda. Plus, consolidating your shopping into one big outing will save gas in the long run, which is always a good thing, both for your budget, and for the environment.
3.Clip coupons.
Check your weekly paper for circulars and coupons. Be sure to have your list ready when you do this, to avoid adding unnecessary items (remember, just because it's on sale doesn't mean you need it). While you may not find coupons for everything you need, you'll likely find savings somewhere. Over time, even a few dollars a week will add up big time. Look at it this way: if you save just $4 per week, you'll end up with an extra $208 each year.
4.Plan ahead; shop accordingly.
Food is arguably one of the largest costs in any family's budget. It's one that can't be skipped or compromised, and with costs of everyday items like milk rising considerably, it can be a huge drain on any spending plan. While there's no realistic way around this need, there are ways to help maximize your spending. Planning meals a week in advance can help you make the most of your purchases; simply plan consecutive meals that use the same primary ingredients. Buy those ingredients in bulk to save even more. And always, always save (and use) leftovers.
5.Reward yourself.
Regardless of the best intentions, it's easy to get sucked in to unnecessary spending; it's practically human nature. An unexpected sale at your favorite store, a discount on an item you don't need, but have wanted for some time. You can curb overspending by operating on a rewards system. Set goals for yourself, like limiting spending to a certain amount, and make room in your budget for a special treat or reward when you reach your goal. If you don't achieve the goal, leave the reward money in place and try again for next month. Having something special to look forward to will make it easier to exercise self-control and avoid splurging on items you don't really need, or even particularly want.
Food Shopping On A Budget
It's a known fact that when women go shopping, it is the happiest time of the moment for them and some women go shopping to get over stress or to satisfy their addiction to spend a lot of money on designer labels and the latest fashion and trends.
To all the ladies that's out there who loves to shop. Remember: you can always go shopping on a tight budget.
Okay, lets just say that you have $150.00 to shop and you want to wear all of the designer labels that's out there.
Know that: you could always go to the department stores such as TJ MAXX, Burligton coat factory, etc. where all the prices are marked down and it's a guarantee that you will come out with at least 5 outfits and a pair of shoes or a nice designer bag to go with your outfit depending on the sales that they have going on for that particular day or week/weekend.
If you think about it, they have some women who are shop-aholics that spend money on extravagant outfits that costs a lot of money that want to have a certain look that makes them feel fabulous and looking like a million bucks.
But did you know that you could get that same look for a low price than what you really pay for at the actual designer stores. All you have to do is bargain shop.
Ladies, there is nothing wrong with thrift shops because that is usually the place where the wealthy people donate their clothing when they're not wearing those items anymore.
The thrift shops are usually called consignment shops, and if you plan on donating your outfits that you no longer need and you can make a little bit of cash donating your clothes to a shop like that and if you have plans on going to an event that requires you to look chic and casual and then you could always go shopping at a department store such as Marshall's because they have all the latest dress and suit designs at a low price that you can't beat at all!
But only a real true shopper knows all about all the places such as wholesale spots, thrift shops, and discount stores because believe it or not, you will definitely find what yo want and its usually items that no one else will find.
However, you basically have to be there when the department stores bring in a new shipment of items. Only a true diva knows the real deal when it comes to fashion and style and she knows her stuff whether it's real or fake and really knows how to shop on a budget.
How do they do that? By shopping smart and knowing when and where to shop for a pair of boots or a coat. In a situation like this, they usually shop in the clearance section where a jacket might run you about $39.99 the lowest depending on the style of the jacket for the fraction of the cost of $79.99.
Now, $79.99 might be the regular price of the jacket marked down to that particular price of the jacket. You can't beat that!
When shopping: Some women discriminate the clearance rack because they feel that if they shop clearance, they'll be talked about. So not true. Please, the clearance section is the perfect section to hit hard when shopping on a budget. Ladies you need to really get on this fast, because the trick to being fabulous is to shop smart, work with what you already have and take care of your clothing, valuables, and luxuries because it will last you for years at a time especially if your clothes isn't that cheap material and it will look as if you just bought it, and just be you with your looks and clothing and remember: if you think you're hot, everyone else will think you're hot and that's the trick to looking and feeling fabulous.
Who ever said that there was a law that said that you have to have a Gucci bag? There is no law, Yes, it's nice to have a Gucci bag but if you can't afford it, then try to carry something else that goes with your outfit that is conservative, but nice. I hate to see a young girl who carries her items and personals in a plastic bag from the grocery store or supermarket because it looks tacky and uncool, but not only that, it ruins your outfit in the worse possible way.
However, every woman should have 2 great bags that they should carry on an everyday basis: a nice pocketbook/purse with a nice strap especially with a nice color.
Although, I prefer genuine leather because it usually lasts you for a long time and an overnight/weekender bag that can carry all of your things.
Remember: your bag doesn't necessarily have to be Gucci or Fendi.
VIP: If It's not the real thing, don't try to bootleg it. But you can carry a Liz Claiborne, Diane Von Furstenburg and Nine West bags, etc. and you can get those hot designer bags from Marshall's, T.J. MAX, The Gap, even Kohl's, or any other fine retail store there is.
You ever walk down the street and you see someone walking next to you and their outfit is really nice and you say to yourself that I wish I had that outfit and you start to wonder how much that outfit costs and it might be very expensive.
Truth is: Go to the department store and you will see the same exact outfit if you're lucky.
But now, the real question is, are you going to take care of those outfits when you finally do get that outfit that you so admired on that same person walking next to you.
When shopping for business attire: Did you know that you can purchase a beautiful suit at H&M and the most you would pay at that particular store is $60.00-$80.. tops! You'll find slacks, nice tops, dresses, dress tops, skirts, Lingerie, etc.
I urge every woman to purchase clothes at H&M, it's not expensive at all, and they have Cavalli there to, as Roberto Cavalli. Those outfits are so chic and they have clothing for men as well.
Remember: Only you can make your clothes look good because the clothes don't make you.
Although, some people usually seek fashion advise on where to shop to look fabulous at a low price that they can afford. I personally love to shop at all of these department stores because I always seem to find something nice and affordable.
One day, I was at a Marshall's in Brooklyn and couldn't find what I was looking for at fist, until a pair of Banana Republic Strappy sandals were looking right at me and said take me home. It was amazing because those were actually the sandals I was looking for and seen them in a magazine.I paid for them at a price of $49.99 compared to the price of $115.00 However, I was really impressed of the sale and I felt that if I didn't grab for them, at that moment then they wouldn't be there when I came back to the store because Marshall's is basically about what will you find today? The point is that if you see a hot particular item, you have to grab it fast before it's gone and always remember: Fashion Rocks!
When it comes to Fashion and Style: Will you be smart about paying for designer labels or will you just let style just pass you by?
