Deciding to go back to school and get you education can be one of the biggest decisions one makes in his or her life. There are many different things that one needs to take in to account even after deciding to further their education and get their degree. For example are online schools as good as traditional on campus schools? The answer to this is yes they are, but some online schools are bad with low accreditation and some are great with a high accreditation.
So obviously the first thing one needs to do in order to get their online degree fast is to research what colleges are best for them and mainly if the college is accredited and by whom are they accredited? Accreditation is the main thing you need to look at when applying for a college online or on-campus because, if the schools accreditation isn't licensed by the state, then the degree you pay for could be worthless.
So what is accreditation when it comes to colleges? In simple terms accreditation is when a specific governing body of a specific field of study endorses the college or courses you are applying for. This is extremely important to someone looking to get the most out of their education and get a job in their field of study after graduation.
Next you need to understand that there are different levels of accreditation when it comes to colleges. First you need to find out if the college as a whole is accredited. Usually meaning that the, Department of Education endorses the college, and see that all of the courses they provide are of the highest quality and meet the states standards for education. This is easy to find out, just by asking. If you can't find an answer or the college isn't accredited then this should be a warning sign to cross this college off your list of possibilities, or at least find out why.
After you have found a list of qualified accredited colleges, you obviously need to choose the courses you want to take. Once you have found the specific courses that you are going to take, you then need to check the accreditation of these specific courses. Now just because this is the second step doesn't mean that its not just as important as the first. Specific fields of study usually have a governing body within that state or region that approve courses and gives them accreditation. Making sure that your job specific courses are accredited is extremely important because if they aren't it could mean the difference between getting a job after graduation and not. But this information is easy to get just by asking the school or asking the department of education. If your career specific courses aren't accredited then you should steer clear of that particular program or college.
With the rise in the numbers of people pursuing an online education accreditation is one of the number one selling points of all of the new schools popping up. Now with all of these new schools there are a number of schools that have not received their accreditation from the local or national governing body. This is always a possibility and one of the most common reasons for it is that the school has applied for their accreditation but just has not received it yet. So if you have found a particular online degree program that suits you but it isn't accredited then, you can easily check with the local governing body or the Department of Education if they are in the process of certifying the particular institution.
The only other reason that an online course isn't accredited besides being low quality is that there is no governing body that certifies that particular field of study. This is not usually the case but if it is it is usually no indication to weather the program is worth taking. It will be best if you ask potential employers about the course, showing them the course material in hopes that they can give you answers on the courses weight in the job field.
So when looking to get your education online it is obvious that going to a school and taking courses that are accredited is key. Alls one needs to do is ask questions, and never accept the answer that accreditation is not important. If you do this you will be on your way to choosing the right school for your educational dollar.
