If you want to learn more about the many wonders of a carnivorous plant, there are several good reference books available for sale online. One is simply entitled “Carnivorous Plants," written by Adrian Slack, a respected authority on the subject and who has developed hundreds of carnivorous plant cultivars many of which was named after him. This book expounds on about 50 species not only through text but also via pencil drawings, illustrations and diagrams, as well as photographs captured in about 30 plate illustrations by Jane Gate. A favorably reviewed book, this 240-page book is rich in cultivation tips and information, and is well accepted among carnivorous plant enthusiasts. Subsequently, Slack wrote another book devoted solely to cultivation, “Insect-Eating Plants and How to Grow Them." Like its predecessor, this edition is fully illustrated and provides information both practical and precise for carnivorous plant growers.



Another very readable reference material is “Growing Carnivorous Plants," which comprehensively tackles not only their identification, but also their cultivation. This book was written by an astronomer cum professional carnivorous plant grower, Barry Rice, who is also one of the editors of the Carnivorous Plant Newsletter, the official journal of the International Carnivorous Plant Society. More than 400 instructive and colorful photographs are featured in this book as it walks the reader through the various carnivorous plants suitable for home cultivation.

Consider also “The Savage Garden" of Peter D’ Amato who has some 30 years of experience in raising carnivorous plants and owning of the nursery, California Carnivores, reputed to keep the biggest carnivorous plant collection in the world. D’Amato’s book is also fully illustrated, with its very informative articles written with a taste of grace and humor. This is certainly one book that any carnivorous plant keeper shouldn't be without!
