If you are looking to start an online career, it would not hurt to have a basic understanding of how it originated and know the history of the industry. It will make it far easier to grasp the concept if you know where and how network marketing got started. Here is a brief history of network marketing.
Unfortunately, 95 percent of the people that get into internet marketing end up failing. While there are countless reasons for this, it does not help that most are completely unaware of how internet marketing got started or how the industry turned into what it is today.
The basic model started back in the 1950's with companies similar to Amway. The whole concept was based around a single individual being able to make a small commission off of the products they sold as well as those sold by their team.
What this did was give people an incentive for recruiting and building a bigger team. The more people that were involved in their team and generating sells, the more money people could make. Over time, more sophisticated compensation plans were developed making it easier to focus on recruiting over sells.
Eventually, MLM companies began to make more money from the sells of training, conferences, books and videos than they did from their retail products. Instead of focusing on selling the product, more pressure and time was devoted to promoting and building a large team.
By the mid 1970's, many businesses were picking up on this new style; especially in the U.S. and UK. As this was well before the internet was around, this business style was typically promoted by word of mouth through home presentations and presentations in offices.
Trust became a huge issue as this was how people would recruit others into their downline. You had to trust the people you were inviting to become part of your team. Nowadays, many internet marketers spend their time trying to get complete strangers to join.
Although people are still making money on the internet, far more are failing. There are some incredible opportunities to take advantage of on the internet, but you have to be willing to work at it and invest time.
You used to be able to have success with a little bit of money and solid communication skills. With the competition as stiff as it is today, it takes a great deal of knowledge and determination to get anywhere. This is precisely why so many do not make it on the internet. But now that you have an understanding of the history of network marketing, you can be better prepared as you start your online career.
History Of Network Marketing
For example:
1. Long term success in Network Marketing demands that you focus on building relationships with those considering your business as well as with your downline.
Those who are in recruiting mode think only about their own interests, and are not very concerned with their prospects' needs. They are interested mainly in the money to be gained by recruiting the person, instead of being a true sponsor to him or her. If a person feels they can trust you, and that you can truly help them reach their goals, they will stick with you.
2. Network Marketing is all about effectively multiplying yourself, your time and your money.
By helping those in our downlines how to be successful and how to grow their businesses, our businesses grow too and we build a long term income. Whether or not they work, we cannot control, but we can certainly inspire and show them how to build their organizations. Christianity also is all about effectively reproducing our time and resources.
Jesus, the Master, delegated responsibility to his disciples by teaching them how to go out and reproduce more disciples.
Isn't that what we're doing in Network Marketing too?
Finding some competent workers and teaching them how to bring other workers into their businesses and continuing this process over and over in our businesses. By providing your downline with good training and skills, your work is divided among many and your business grows very quickly.
What we're doing is creating an environment that gives others the opportunity to become teachers also, and as a result, not only is more of our time freed up, but more and more people in our downlines assume more responsibilities.
Training involves knowing what your downline's needs are so that you can supply the need. Where are they encountering problems in building their business? Support them so that they can succeed. That's what Jesus does with those who follow him. He meets their needs by making sure they are armed with all the teaching and spiritual food they need so that they can live a successful holy life.
That is also the way the church is set up - it is a place where people receive all the training they need to live a holy life, where they know God better, and to for stimulating each other in the faith. are trained in holy living for each area of their lives, to learn about God and
As a good sponsor, we should supply excellent training to help them in all facets of business building. Aside from good training, our downlines need a 'community' where they will receive motivation, inspiration and encouragement in their businesses - a place to be celebrated and recognized for their achievements.
By doing these things for them, it prospers their businesses, but also, it helps prosper our businesses too. Like it's been said before, "we succeed when we help others succeed."
3. If you genuinely desire to build a prosperous six figure income, using Network Marketing as your vehicle, then faith and patience are necessities for your travel.
Many Network Marketers fail in their home based businesses because they can't handle the rejection that comes along with the package. When they don't see immediate results, they hop to another opportunity or quit altogether.
Growing a successful Network Marketing business requires faith in the process, sprinkled with a lot of patience as it starts to sprout and grow.
So what do Network Marketing and spirituality have in common?
First, the mark of the Christian Faith is about serving others and truly helping them prosper. It's not about deceiving people so that I get what I want.
In Network Marketing of course, building an income is what we are working for, however, we should approach it with the right attitude and heart. Servanthood Marketing is what I like to call it.
If we are in Network Marketing just to make money, then our attitudes and actions will reflect that in how we treat our prospects and downlines. People know when we truly care about their success.
Second, even Jesus needed help in spreading the gospel. He teamed up with twelve men and taught them everything they needed to know about effectively 'recruiting' others into becoming followers of Jesus.
Those twelve men went out to the world, applied the teachings of Jesus, and taught others how to be followers of Christ also. Today the Gospel is known throughout the whole world as it has spread like a virus.
It's no different with Network Marketing. Bringing 100 people into our business is not necessary to have a successful business. If we hand pick 5 - 10 people wisely so that we work closely with them, they will teach others the same things, so that our organizations are building momentum and growth.
Creating leadership and multiplying that leadership throughout our organizations just as Jesus did with his twelve leaders is what it's all about.
Third, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you could move mountains" is a principle that Jesus taught and that Napoleon Hill also wrote about. Today, many authors have written books on how important it is to think positively.
It's very unlikely that we will have any success in Network Marketing if we are thinking negatively. Thinking positively will help you achieve great things. Negative thinking will only destroy your vision and keep you in the rut.
I can continue to enumerate the many similarities between Network Marketing and Christianity, but it would take a book to finish it all.
The point is this: Network Marketing is not a one man show. It's all about building long term relationships, having business integrity and treating others with the same respect you would want to receive. It's all about self development and personal growth.
Without thinking correctly, controlling our self-defeating tendencies and acquiring the proper skills, it is highly unlikely that we will build a successful Network Marketing business. The sky is the limit to what can be achieved. We are always being asked to continue to grow and develop.
