Getting and staying motivated at work can be difficult when you are your own boss. People that have a boss are motivated to keep the boss happy in order to keep their job. If the boss is unhappy with their work they could lose their jobs. This keeps them working on days they would prefer to have off. If you are self employed then you are the boss and it is your job to motivate yourself.
Taking short cuts and doing things the easy way might be faster but over time it does not pay off. Your actions determine whether or not you are successful when you are your own boss. It can be more rewarding than working a regular job in many ways while it can be a lot harder in other ways. All business owners will have a period in which they will feel like giving up. It is not unusual for a business owner to feel this way. It is very important to keep on going when this happens to you and not give up. Here are some helpful suggestions.
1. Write down the reasons that you started your own business. When you are just starting your business you will need to be highly motivated. Thinking about the reasons that you started your business can bring you back to a similar state of mind and help you to be motivated. When the list is written put it where you can easily find it when you need it again.
2. Set goals for yourself and make a reward system. Make the rewards meaningful so that you will be more motivated to do the work. Rewards that hold no intrinsic value to you aren't going to be enough to motivate yourself on tough days.
3. Talk to your fellow business owners. Sometimes talking to those who were once in your shoes and have become successful can be reassuring. You can also ask these people for advice and suggestions as a fellow business owners when you need help.
4. You might consider getting some motivational CD's, books, videos or seminars. The people that are making these are good at helping people to stay motivated and help them do well with their endeavors. Since there are quite a few different tutorials and motivational programs to choose from you may want to ask one of your fellow business owner's which one they recommend.
5. Take a break. The one thing that will suck the motivation out of you if being so tired you want to do nothing at all. If you are working for a long time and not getting the rewards that you need then you should take a mini vacation. Have someone else do your job if it is possible. When you come back to work you will be refreshed and able to work better.
6. Delegate tasks to others and outsource when needed. If you have a part of your business that you don't really like to do, you might pay a different person to do it. That way you will be able to take time out to do the things you like to do and not be stressed with the other stuff.
If you want to succeed you need to stay motivated. When you are no longer motivated your work is put on hold and you lose ground. Create ways to help you stay motivated.
How To Find Motivation
Don't just say "I want to lose 40 pounds". That's just a number. WHY do you want to lose weight? Will you be able to wear those clothes that you feel comfortable in? Will you look more attractive to the opposite sex? Will you be a great role model for your kids? Will you have more energy?
Why do you want to go through a fat loss system and not just sit on the couch watching "Desperate Housewives"? You need to be clear on that. That will give you the fire you need to keep going. Write your goals down and stick them to a place you can see them every day. Your fridge, your PC, your wallet or whatever. DO IT. People tend to forget easily.
Another fantastic way to get motivated is to just get fed up with the way you currently look. But here's the catch: Since we see ourselves everyday (even if we avoid "looking" on purpose sometimes), it's hard to honestly "see" ourselves.
We gained 2 pounds last month and one more pound last week and half a pound more during the dinner last night when we were invited at a friend's home...
These small changes are usually hard to spot. It's only when you are able to see their cumulative effect that you really "get" what has happened.
So do this: Take a picture of yourself in a bathing suit. Ladies, use a bikini, ok?
Trust me, after you look at the picture, you will be able to honestly "see" yourself. Most people who do this say: "I can't believe I look like that. How did I get so out of shape"? This is usually a very motivational strategy...
Also, you can't improve what you can't measure. Know where you are and where you want to go. How much do you weigh now? How much of that is fat (buy a fat calliper from your local health food store)? How much is lean tissue? Use a fat calliper so you get these "metrics". How much fat do you want to lose? How much muscle do you want to gain? Be specific...
Saying "I want to lose as much fat as possible and gain as much muscle as possible" is a recipe for failure. "As much as possible" cannot be "reverse engineered" so you create a plan you can stick to.
On the other hand, if you say: "I need to lose 16 pounds of fat and gain 4 pounds of muscle in 8 weeks", then you know that, on average, you need to be losing 2 pounds of fat and gaining half a pound of muscle per week...
