Most consumers rely nowadays on inkjet printers that use inkjet cartridges (such as the Canon cartridges.) The principle behind inkjet printers is that the ink can be propelled in a controlled way onto paper by the printer. The Canon technology for its BubbleJet inkjet printing process came about accidentally – during an experiment being carried out sometime in the 1970s, the needle of an ink-filled syringe came into contact with a hot soldering iron.
