A national business search is a exhaustive listing of enrolled businesses. The intention of a business search is to help the searcher find their objective, usually a business’s address or product. A business search is organized with local people in mind, helping them to find the wright business or service in their state. The majority of business searches are a combination of data bases that house thousands if not millions of national or local businesses.



A local business search is similar to a business search directory or search engine although it is quite different. Some of the main differences are a search engine is a program that searches a document for a named keyword and coming up with a list of files where the key phrase was found. Even though a search engine is simply a general class program, the term is mostly used to convey systems like Google, Yahoo and others.

Generally, a search engine works by sending an Internet robot called a spider to crawl a website to bring back as many documents as possible. Another program, called an indexer, then reads these documents and produces an index based on the words enclosed in each document. Each search engine uses a proprietary algorithm to create its indices such that, optimally, only meaningful results are returned for each query.

A search directory on the other hand is used when you are looking for material on the Internet that is easily categorized and searched by browsing in a directory. A search directory is similar to a search engine in that they each put together web sites in a database. The difference is that websites are directly submitted into it and the submitted webpage’s are approved by humans instead of being spidered. Then the webpage is cataloged and in most cases alphabetized. Also most directory listings will start with numbers then proceed to A through Z.

If you do a search on the search engine Google for the keyword “business search" you will find 418,000,000 search results. Most of these search results are for online directories and business directories. However, there are quite a few true business search website’s.

One advantage that a local business search has is, that if you do a search for a business that you have a demand for, you will arrive at find exactly what you are looking for. If you live in Huston, Tx and you want pizza and you do a search in a business search directory, you will be taken to a page that has knowledge about restaurants that offer the food you want. Or if you need brakes for your car you’ll type Me, brakes and up will come a page with your local muffler and brake specialist.

For myself like the idea a business search directory allot better than a search engine for finding a local business. It seems that when I do a search on a major search engine for a local business, the search results are most of the time are not what I was search for. However, when I use my prized business search directory I am certain that I will find the business that I was looking for.
