How To Stop Blushing

    View:
Most people blush at some time or another. It is a very natural process and usually occurs when we are embarrassed. For most people this is not a major problem as it will not happen very often. If you suffer from blushing badly so that it occurs far too often you may want to work on it so that you can stop it happening. The aim of this article is to give you some advice on how to prevent yourself from blushing.

What is Blushing?

Blushing is when your face and neck go red and is often accompanied by a warm feeling. The red colour comes from the dilation of the blood vessels close to the face. As the blood vessels dilate they fill with blood and this causes the red colour. Some people are more susceptible to this type of automatic response then others.

Main Causes of Blushing

The most common cause of blushing is as a response to your emotions, usually anger, guilt or embarrassment. If you suffer from this type of blushing you will probably find it does not occur that often. However if it does there are things you can do to boost your confidence and prevent blushing.

Other causes of blushing are alcohol consumption, carcinoid syndrome, eating spicy food, drinking hot drinks, menopause, a high temperature, exercise, some food flavourings. Most of these are relatively simple causes and means your blushing will pass easily. If you feel you are blushing regularly for no reason we would recommend you consult your doctor.

How to Prevent Blushing

If you find you are blushing quite a lot during social situations this in itself may cause embarrassment which will cause you to blush more. As a result it is a good idea to try and do things to keep yourself calm and prevent blushing. Below are our top tips for preventing blushing:

1. Learn How to Relax Yourself

One of the best ways to stop yourself blushing is to keep yourself relaxed. It is a good idea to practise some relaxation techniques. Then when you feel you are about to blush do some deep breathing and take yourself through your relaxation exercise. This will help to keep you calm and stop your blushing.

2. Try Announcing Your Blushing

If you announce you are about to blush it will stop it being an issue. This will usually stop people from laughing and may even stop it happen. If you make it so that your blushing is not an issue it will quite often stop it from happening. One of the things that makes blushing bad is the fear of blushing. If it is not an issue then it will tend to reduce the intensity.

3. Accept Your Blushing

Like with the last point the more comfortable you are with your blushing the less intense the feeling will be. This will usually cause your blushing to be less intense. Laugh about it and accept it. If it is not an issue for you it won't be for anybody else.

4. Learn What Causes Your Blushing

There are many things that can cause you to feel the feelings that induce blushing. Find out what it is that is causing your blushing and try to help yourself resolve that issue. Many people that blush do so because they are shy and lack confidence. If this is the case there are many things you can do to improve this situation. We would recommend trying hypnotherapy or NLP so that you have confidence in yourself. Usually as you feel more comfortable with who you are you find that your blushing reduces.
How To Stop Blushing
Charles Darwin believed people who blushed aren't to be trusted and that young children don't blush because they aren't developed enough to understand social rules. Any normal human being who blushes will disagree passionately! Let's move on from Darwin's late 19th century ramblings and find out why blushing happens, and more importantly, how to stop blushing.

If you blush for no reason, feel social anxiety, avoid talking to new people or in groups or have plain old embarrassment, it's likely you've got an overly active sympathetic nervous system. Blushing is an unconscious reaction to an emotional trigger, causing your blood vessels to open wider and flood your face, neck and ears. The secret to stopping blushing is to make use of your para-sympathetic nervous system, and allow it to dampen the over active sympathetic nervous system.

The simplest method for enabling your para-sympathetic nervous system to lower anxiety is to use 7-11 breathing. This means you breathe in for a count of 7, hold briefly, and breathe out gently for a count of 11. No matter if you stick with the 7-11 count or some other combination, make sure the out-breath is longer than the in-breath. Practice the breathing technique in a quiet place, and then use it to calm a racing heart and cool a reddening face when you need it.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool in stopping blushing. Deep relaxation lowers anxiety generally, calming your sympathetic nervous system. Whilst experiencing deep relaxation, you can use your imagination to experience social situations and keep cool, even those experiences that would normally open the blood gates in your face!

Remember to seek medical advice in case your blushing is caused by an undiagnosed medical problem, such as the ?hot flush? associated with menopause, medication side effects or skin condition. In extreme cases, the only way to stop blushing is to undergo surgery, however for most people this drastic step is not required, particularly if they use hypnosis to lessen blushing.

Allow your body and mind to solve your problems, and discover that the secret of how to stop blushing is within your reach.
