How To Stop Blushing
Mercedes Aspland
Most people blush at some time or another. It is a very natural process and usually occurs when we are embarrassed. For most people this is not a major problem as it will not happen very often. If you suffer from blushing badly so that it occurs far too often you may want to work on it so that you can stop it happening. The aim of this article is to give you some advice on how to prevent yourself from blushing.
What is Blushing?
Blushing is when your face and neck go red and is often accompanied by a warm feeling. The red colour comes from the dilation of the blood vessels close to the face. As the blood vessels dilate they fill with blood and this causes the red colour. Some people are more susceptible to this type of automatic response then others.
Main Causes of Blushing
The most common cause of blushing is as a response to your emotions, usually anger, guilt or embarrassment. If you suffer from this type of blushing you will probably find it does not occur that often. However if it does there are things you can do to boost your confidence and prevent blushing.
Other causes of blushing are alcohol consumption, carcinoid syndrome, eating spicy food, drinking hot drinks, menopause, a high temperature, exercise, some food flavourings. Most of these are relatively simple causes and means your blushing will pass easily. If you feel you are blushing regularly for no reason we would recommend you consult your doctor.
How to Prevent Blushing
If you find you are blushing quite a lot during social situations this in itself may cause embarrassment which will cause you to blush more. As a result it is a good idea to try and do things to keep yourself calm and prevent blushing. Below are our top tips for preventing blushing:
1. Learn How to Relax Yourself
One of the best ways to stop yourself blushing is to keep yourself relaxed. It is a good idea to practise some relaxation techniques. Then when you feel you are about to blush do some deep breathing and take yourself through your relaxation exercise. This will help to keep you calm and stop your blushing.
2. Try Announcing Your Blushing
If you announce you are about to blush it will stop it being an issue. This will usually stop people from laughing and may even stop it happen. If you make it so that your blushing is not an issue it will quite often stop it from happening. One of the things that makes blushing bad is the fear of blushing. If it is not an issue then it will tend to reduce the intensity.
3. Accept Your Blushing
Like with the last point the more comfortable you are with your blushing the less intense the feeling will be. This will usually cause your blushing to be less intense. Laugh about it and accept it. If it is not an issue for you it won't be for anybody else.
4. Learn What Causes Your Blushing
There are many things that can cause you to feel the feelings that induce blushing. Find out what it is that is causing your blushing and try to help yourself resolve that issue. Many people that blush do so because they are shy and lack confidence. If this is the case there are many things you can do to improve this situation. We would recommend trying hypnotherapy or NLP so that you have confidence in yourself. Usually as you feel more comfortable with who you are you find that your blushing reduces.
