Many light fixtures have small screws holding a globe or other covering onto the fixture, covering the light bulb. In order to change the light bulb, you have to loosen the screws so you can remove the cover and replace the bulb. A small screwdriver is good for this not only because the screws themselves are small, but these can also be tight fitting places, maybe with a small amount of space between the cover and a wall or ceiling, so you won't be able to fit a larger tool in.
If you build or add devices to your computers, a small screwdriver will be necessary, from removing the case over your motherboard, to attaching new devices. This can also be true when hooking up home entertainment systems like cable boxes, video games, or speakers. A small screwdriver can be useful also in repairing or cleaning out small home appliances such as toasters. Eyeglasses and jewelry can both be repaired with a small screwdriver as well. Tighten up handles and pulls on cabinets, dresser drawers, closet doors and more. If you do craft projects, small screwdrivers can be handy for making everything from model airplanes to beaded necklaces.
As handy as a small screwdriver is, you'll want to make sure that you not only have one, but that you can find it when you need it. There are several products out there to help keep your small screwdriver handy. You can buy a keychain model so that your small screwdriver and other mini tools are always with you, provided you know where your keys are. There are also multipurpose tools that contain small screwdrivers that you can keep in a kitchen drawer, throw in your camping backpack, or keep in the top of your toolbox so that they are always at the ready for small jobs around the house. Many pocket knives also have at least one screwdriver as part of their complement of tools. This also keeps it compact, so it's not a lot of clutter to keep it close at hand. A small screwdriver or a multipurpose tool that contains one can be a great gift for kids heading off to college, people starting out in a new place, and frequent hikers and campers.
