Indoor Team Building Activities

    View:
The first one that springs to mind is the good old British weather. There's really no telling what's going to be happening outside even if the calendar says August, we all know that it can be cold and raining. Unfortunately us Brits know that calling a season summer doesn't guarantee a dry sunny day! As it happens, there are few outdoor team building events that would need to be cancelled if it was raining and the weather would have to be absolutely atrocious before an event was cancelled but nevertheless, this is an important factor for some organisers choice reasoning for opting for indoor team building.

Time can also be a deciding factor for staying inside. If you are hosting an indoor team building event, then you don't have to get your delegates out of their seats and to a location, you don't run the risk of loosing people on the way (it's amazing how many people take their time). By hosting the event indoors, your delegates are ready and waiting the event can start immediately and when you are on a tight conference schedule this is a crucial point to remember.

Another element that plays a part is light. Many organisers choose indoor team building in the winter because the failing light in the afternoon in the winter means that team events have to be finished sometimes as early as three 0'clock. If you are inside then obviously this doesn't become an issue.

Budget plays an important part in the indoor or outdoor choice. If you are looking at events that are outside, they may well need grounds on which to host them. These grounds normally cost money and not every company wants to spend their budget on the ground hire. If you are hosting a meeting, then you have a room already available to you at no additional cost, which makes indoor team building sometimes the more attractive option.

With indoor team building being very flexible, it's possible now to effectively engage very large groups of people at the same time. You can host a team event that each and every delegate is playing a part in simultaneously for as many as 2000 delegates; it's not as easy to do this when you are outside. With such a wide range of creative, effective and fun indoor events available, it's easy to see why organisers are working with team building companies and planning events that take place inside.

If you are not sure if you should be hosting an indoor team building event, then call up an established team building company, talk to them and make sure they know exactly what you want to achieve and let them suggest a number of different options for you to choose from in order to create a memorable and fulfilling event.
Indoor Team Building Activities
The size of the room you plan to host the event is crucial, you need to communicate the size and any restrictions to the team building company. Remember details such as the shape of it - is it square or is it L shaped? Are there any pillars in it that could either obscure teams view or act as a safety hazard? These are all important details for the successful hosting of indoor team building events.

Is your meeting room on the ground floor, does it have direct access into it for equipment? If it's not on the ground floor, does it have lift access and if so can that lift fit the event equipment in it?

Is your team build likely to be noisy? If you are planning a drumming workshop have you actually checked with the venue that they allow it? Noisy events such as musical activities can often disturb other guests, it's crucial that you obtain permission or your event may be made to finish abruptly on the day.

Setting up for an indoor team building event often means that the team building company will need a good deal of time alone in the room. Find out exactly how much time they need and then see if it's feasible for you. Can they set up before your meeting starts? Could they set up during lunch? All these details need to be considered.

Is the team event a surprise? If it is, then can your delegates see into the room while it is being set up? If they can, then you will need to arrange for the doors or windows to be covered to ensure that the secrecy is maintained and the impact is not lost.

Have the team building company got all the equipment that they need to host your indoor team building event? Do you need to supply microphones, if so are they hand held or clip? Do they need a PA system? Do they need a projector or a screen? Make sure you establish exactly what the events company will and won't be supplying or your event might not run as smoothly as you hope.

If you don't know the answers to some of these questions, then speak to the events company. Any reputable company will be happy to speak to the venue on your behalf and find out the details for you. They'll also let you know what they supply and what's left for you to supply because at the end of the day they will want your indoor team building event to be a resounding success too!
