Installing A Satellite Dish

    View:
There are a few good reasons why you would end up having to install your own satellite dish, but the first time it is installed you have no reason to do it yourself. This is because all of major satellite service providers like Dish Network and DirecTV not only give you a free satellite system when you join their family of viewers, but they also install it for free using their own in house team of installation experts.

They only do it for free the first time though and it is covered by a warranty, but if you move to a new location, you have to pay for the second installation. It is highly recommended that you have them professionally install it if it is all possible for you to do it. If you are intent on doing it yourself though, there a few handy tips that it is highly recommended that you follow.

Satellite system installation is going to mainly involve the wiring that traverses through the dwelling and the dish on the roof of the dwelling, if the roof is where you are going top put it. If you have never slipped off a roof before, you will be amazed at how fast it happens and how easy it is to do. If the roof is steep then give careful thought to the risk involved.

If it is icy then don't even get on it unless it is a flat roof and then be very careful when getting on and off the ladder. You can always use a tripod mount to wait out the winter with. Use brand new screws and mounting brackets that you can get at the hardware store and pre drill pilot holes to insure that the wood doesn't split when you drive in any screws.

Select a good solid location to attach it to that is as close a distance as possible to the receiver, then get in the attic and see if you can run your cable to it. If it is inaccessible, then find another solid place with a clear view to the southern sky. Try your best to avoid obstacles like tree branches and use a compass to get your bearings.

Don't fall through the ceiling when you are in the attic and move slowly and carefully and you might pick up a can of wasp spray when you are at the hardware store. After you have found a solid place on your house, attached the dish nicely with good new brackets and screws and ran your cables then connect the cable with an exterior connector that has a rubber boot on it and use cable clips to fasten any loose cable to a solid surface.

Don't tear big holes in your walls when you are running cables through the inside of the house. Use a long screw driver to drill through the sheet rock walls then fish the cable through using a piece of coat hanger. Think before you act, because if you are going to get hurt or do extensive damage to your home then there is no real savings in doing it yourself.
Installing A Satellite Dish
All of the major satellite TV programming service providers do free installation when you sign up with them and in fact DirecTV and Dish Network will do even more then that. This is because they give you a free satellite TV system and do all the installation with their own professional installation crews at no cost at all. Both Dish Network and DirecTV will also give you all the extra receivers you need to connect up to four TVs to their programming with this deal and you don't need to provide even a screw because they provide every piece of hardware at no cost to you.

There are no hidden charges in this stellar deal, so all that you pay for is your programming package and everything that they give you comes with an extended warranty and it is yours to keep. So think twice before you get involved with doing your own installation because it can be a difficult and dangerous job. If you insist on doing it yourself though, there are a few things that you should know and the first thing that you should be aware of is that roofs can be a very dangerous place to work.

Its not the falling that you have to worry about, its hitting the ground that can cause all the problems for you so be very careful. If you have a roof that is too steep to walk on, or is at all icy or covered with frost or moss it is advised that you don't even attempt it. This is because there are plenty of people right now as you are reading this that are sitting in wheel chairs that wish that they had shelled out the few bucks that it costs to have a professional do this dangerous work.

Walk around your building and look for a nice solid surface that you can mount it to that has a clear and unobstructed view to the southern sky. You can use a compass to do this and than you can use the compass to give your dish a final alignment. After you have selected the place that you are going to mount it, go into the attic and see if you have access to run the cable to the place you have selected to mount the dish.

Don't step through the ceiling of your house while you are in the attic and take a flash light and a stick to knock the cobwebs out of your way. You want to use the least amount of cable as possible for the best reception, so bear this in mind. If you can't run the cable to the place you have selected then find another place that you can and then install the dish.

Make a trip to the hardware store and get all brand new connection brackets and screws if the ones that you have are at all rusty, worn or striped out. Pre drill the screw holes so that they go in cleanly and any wood doesn't split. If you are screwing into stucco or anything other than wood use the plastic inserts that go into the pre drilled holes so the screws go in solidly and will last. Use an outdoor cable connector with a rubber boot on it to connect the cable to the dish and give it a final adjustment using your compass. You can contact Dish Network or DirecTV online to find out their policies on satellite dish installations.
