International Documentary Film Festival

    View:
The festival is held almost simultaneously in Sao Paulo (from the 25th of March to the 6th of April) and in Rio de Janeiro (from the 26th of March to the 6th of April), to give to as many cinema lovers as possible the opportunity to immerse themselves in the showing of some of the best Brazilian and international documentaries, enjoying a holiday in Brazil at once. The new edition of the festival, which is now considered as the most important showcase for documentaries in South America, will host, indeed, the projection of around 140 films realised by documentarists from all over the world and divided into sections. The Brazilian feature and medium length films section will include 7 unreleased Brazilian documentaries, released by both famous directors and emerging talents, while the Brazilian short films section will include 9 documentaries.

Beside the Brazilian films sections, the festival will host also two competitive sections of films coming from different countries, and this is an evidence of its international appeal and of the importance that this festival has achieved all over the world. As happens with Brazilian films, international documentaries too will be divided into categories, according to their length, which will include 9 short films and 12 medium length and feature films unreleased in Brazil. The festival organisers are particularly proud to host works realised in all 5 continents, also because some of these works have already achieved success in some of the most important film festivals in the world, like Amsterdam, Leipzig and Sundance festivals.

2 juries of experts, one composed by Brazilian members and the other composed by cinema professionals coming from all over the world, will judge and award a prize to the best films of the 4 categories. The first jury will award a prize to the best Brazilian documentary and to the best Brazilian short documentary, while the latter will award a prize to the best international documentary and to the best international short documentary.

Besides the competitive sections, the festival will include also some categories of out of competition films, like The State of Things, Latin American Focus and Horizon, as well as some special events. In particular, this year's edition of the festival is proud to host, as a guest of honour, Avi Mograbi: his latest film, Z32, which has already achieved success in the latest Venice international film festival, will be projected during the festival. The great Israeli documentarist, who is well-known for his autobiographical and anti-militarist films, and who took part in the 2002 edition of It's all true (his documentary August: a moment before the eruption was the winner in the international category), will be present at a debate that will take place after the projection of his film, transforming the festival into a unique event for all of his fans, but also for all cinema lovers.

Rio is much more than beaches and carnival: book now a cheap hotel in Rio and enjoy the festival It's all true.
