Current design trends in automotive manufacturing have created larger windshield areas, some sloping backward at nearly 30 degrees to horizontal, and resulting in greater transmission of solar radiation into the vehicle. Driver health, safety, comfort, ac loads, fuel savings, and fabric deterioration are some of the challenges manufacturers face because of these new designs. Solar Ultraviolet and Infrared radiation must be effectively reduced while visible light transmission is sustained at levels found acceptable by health care physicians.
The windshield is suppose to provide a viewing environment owners are comfortable with... but since solar reflective films and coatings are not typically used in windshield applications, drivers are subject to intense solar radiation penetrating this comfort zone... The ideal front window would permit only the sun's visible light to enter a vehicle, while blocking out ultraviolet and infrared energy. We can keep vehicle interiors cool by using new glass chemistries and windshield designs that reflect or absorb solar energy, instead of just allowing it to pass through. That's not as easy as it sounds though. Glassmakers can't just make the front windows tinted darker because both the U.S. and Europe mandate that car windows must allow a minimum of 70% light penetration.
Tint for Life has created the industry's first "prescription windshield", which allows drivers high definition visibility while removing destructive Infrared heat and harmful Ultraviolet radiation. A spectrally-selective nano ceramic coating reflects destructive and harmful rays without diminishing visible light except as desired. This helps to maintain interior comfort zones, cooling the passenger area quickly after parking, to minimize strain on vehicle air conditioning and improve fuel efficiency.
Utilizing German technology to create the world's first solar efficient windshield with varient darkness, Tint for Life LLC has submitted a design proposal to Saint-Gobain Sekurit, for the development of a type "photo-grey" windshield. Employing advanced techniques and enhanced process control, fine electro-chromic oxides are deposited onto ultra clear flat glass, then transformed into a state-of-the-art end user product, with a high performance heat, glare and ultraviolet barrier. This patent pending technology is unique only to a prescription windshield, and will easily out-perform any conventional dyed, metallic, or powder coated film available in the market today.

In addition to the increased comfort and energy savings passed on to consumers, solar efficient glass can also provide important benefits to our environment through reduced emissions of man-made gases that are responsible for destruction of ozone in the atmosphere.
