To improve the look of you picture you can apply the rule of third. This can really give a great picture when it comes to landscapes. Here, instead of putting at the center the object of focus, the object can be situated on a line that would intersect the picture on a third.

Improve your pictures' point of view by trying to take them at different angles. When taking pictures, instead of letting your subjects pose which can be boring, you can capture them in action. Candid shots often produce the best photos. Pictures look way better when the subjects are more natural.
