Non-lethal self-defense weapons can give you peace of mind whether at home or out and about. Self-defense weapons enable you and other members of your family to defend yourselves if robbed or attacked. So which weapons are right for you? How do you know which self defense weapons to provide for your spouse...or your teenage son or daughter? Here are some quick tips for selecting the right weapons for every family member.
Perhaps you've heard about self-defense weapons but have always been reluctant to buy them. The most popular are pepper spray, stun guns and animal repellers. Each has its own advantages, but not all are right for everyone.
Stun Guns
Stun guns are probably the most powerful personal security products because they will temporarily disable your attacker for several minutes so you can get away. Stun guns have stored energy that is released into the attacker's muscles. This energy causes the muscles to do a whole lot of work rapidly, thus, depleting the attacker's blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. This temporarily takes away the attacker's ability to function properly. The attacker will also lose his balance. Keep in mind that even if you use a stun gun while the attacker is touching you, the current will not pass to your body.
Stun guns come in various sizes and different degrees of voltage. There are mini stun guns that are easy to carry in your pocket or purse. Voltage ranges from 80,000 volts up to 800,000 volts! There are stun guns with alarms and lights, and even some that look like a baton that you can carry in a holster. Some run on batteries; some have a built-in charger. There are also powerful Tasers called Advanced Taser M-18, which combine the injury reducing benefits of traditional stun technology with the stopping power of Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology. It has a higher instant incapacitation rate than a 9mm handgun!
Stun guns can be carried by any member of the family, whether male or female; however, you should never allow your small children to hold or play with a stun gun. For teens, try a cell phone stun gun. These look just like a real cell phone and can contain up to 150,000 volts. Cell phone stun guns provide an easy way to surprise an attacker!
Pepper Sprays
Pepper spray is among the simplest non-lethal self-defense weapons. If attacked, you can spray pepper spray on the assailant to temporarily stop him from pursuing you. Pepper spray works by causing the membranes in the nose and throat to swell as well as swelling in the veins in the eyes. The attacker's eyes will swell shut so he won't be able to see to pursue you...not to mention he'll be to busy gasping for breath!
Though pepper spray gives you and your family members a powerful defense, it comes in very small, convenient packages with a variety of styles for all ages. You'll find pepper spray lipstick, pepper spray key chains, pepper spray booklets and even pepper pens. All these look like common items, but they'll give your attacker a very unpleasant surprise.
Animal Repellers
If you or a member of your family love to walk, jog or even hike in park areas or on nature hiking trails, it's a good idea to be prepared in case of an animal attack. Dogs and bears are particularly notorious for attacking humans. Luckily there are a number of animal repellers you can use to ward off an animal attack. One is the Super Dog Chaser, which gives off a very high-pitched, unpleasant sound to scare away a dog. It is not audible to humans, and will not harm the dog. It also had a super bright LED flashing strobe to temporarily blind and confuse the dog. Or, you can opt for Mace Canine Spray.
Bear repellant pepper spray is designed to ward off bears similarly to regular pepper spray, but in a safe manner for bears. Two brands that are registered with the EPA are Mace Bear Spray and Guard Alaska Bear Repellant.
Once you determine which personal security products will work best for your family, you can easily go online to order a variety of self-defense weapons. You'll find affordable Mace and Taser products, knives, pepper spray, mini stun guns, hidden camera DVR products, and more. It's better to prepare now than to be sorry later!
Law Enforcement Self Defense
Here are some common sense tips to help you avoid an assault, sexual assault or rape.
- Use an elevator instead of the stairs. I know you need the exercise but going down a stairway by yourself at night can be a scary thing without anyone around. It is prime ground for perverts.
- If confronted with an armed assailant on foot-TAKE OFF. Only 2% of attackers are armed anyhow. Chances are that his aim isn't that good. Your chances are better running away than staying and being assaulted or raped.
- If an assailant gets into your car with a gun-step on the gas, gun the car and CRASH THE CAR.
- If an assault from the front appears imminent YELL "Stop or Back Off." Most assailants are not up to resistance. They expect an easy time of it. Resistance throws most of them for a loop.
- ALWAYS carry some non lethal self defense weapons such as pepper sprays or stun guns. The bad guys use surprise as a weapon. You can use it too. Imagine an assailant grabs you from behind with his arm around your neck and you spray him with some pepper spray.
- ALWAYS carry a personal alarm and be ready to use it.
If you follow these tips you are going a long way to preventing an assault-perhaps even protecting yourself.
Please Note that even though pepper spray is legal in all 50 states, some states and cities have restrictions. Some states and cities have restrictions on stun guns. Check with your local police department. Literally thousands of police departments carry and use pepper spray and stun guns. Why wouldn't you?
