Lets Talk About The "E" Word, Exercise

Have you heard about all those diets where all you have to do is eat certain types of foods and when they are combined with other types of foods they cause the body to lose weight without the person having to do any exercise at all? Yea, me too. Did you realize that there actually may be certain foods that can do this, sorta? Yea, but believe me, I don't want to spend a good portion of my life researching and shopping for, not to mention cooking foods that have to have a certain food combination before they will work like this. No way. That in itself is a lot of work and probably the real reason that a person loses weight with that kind of diet. The fact is, you simply have to put exercise into the diet mixture. The "E" word is exercise and guess what? If you truly intend to lose weight while on your diet, there's just no way around it.



Yea, you can starve yourself and be a couch potato and lose weight. That is possible but also unreasonable and downright foolish. The idea behind any diet is not to make you unhealthy but to bring your weight down to a level that balances the amount of fat in your body with the amount of lean muscle, thereby causing your metabolism to maintain a certain working condition that allows you to live life with little reason to fear metabolic diseases. In other words, you get healthy and stay that way for a long time. In order to do this, no matter what kind of diet you are on, you will need to incorporate a certain amount of daily exercise into your routine.

Here's the way it works folks and there's no other way that it work regardless of what these snake oil salesmen try to tell you. The body stores the extra food that you eat. It stores it as fat. The more food you eat and the less energy that you burn, the more fat is stored in the fat warehouses around your body, like your butt, your belly, your thighs and your arms. That's pretty simple huh? Here's something else that is very simple: lying around watching TV or exercising for ten minutes once a week is NOT considered exercise. You have to force your body to burn calories if you want to lose weight. Burning calories involves some type of forced ardent body movement. That means you have to put effort into your exercise.

Intense exercise is something that most humans are adverse to. We don't like to sweat, move a lot or cause ourselves any discomfort, therefore we don't. But we do have a strong affinity to eating. That combination, eating a lot and exercising little to none, is the elementary reason that humans tend to acquire large amounts of lard.

I hope it's clear that if you are going to lose any weight, you're going to have to find a way to burn the calories through some type of regular exercise. Now, let's explore that need and what we can do about it without causing a whole lot of pain and frustration.

When we're talking about regular exercise, we're not talking about this highly compelling need to spend a ridiculous amount of money going to a workout gym every day. Those places are ok for those of us who are highly motivated and use them daily but the realistic people, those of us who eat too much and exercise too little are way too lazy to keep up a membership in a gym for long. Most gyms count on this. They get your money and then you stop working out. Doesn't matter and they don't care. Once they have your money, you can do what you want, you're not getting your money back and if you have a contract and think that all you have to do is stop going, you're in for a very crude awakening. They will hound you from now till doomsday for the money that you promised them. They are relentless and they will do everything they can to retrieve that money. So, the point is, don't waste your time if you're not going to go for it and change your lifestyle.

I'm not saying that nobody is going to change and go to the gym all the time. No, but the vast majority of us won't do it. Statistics have shown that something like 80% of people who start out in a gym, quit going in less than six months. We don't want that to happen to you.

What we do want to see for you is a daily routine of exercising at times of the day when you are most active. How much time? We're just talking about ten minutes, three times a day. That's NOT very much but it is going to be enough to get that fat off of you IF you stick with your diet.

What kinds of exercise are we talking about? Walking. That's it, just moving your legs to propel your body forward for ten solid minutes, three times a day. You can do that if you'll determine what times of the day you are feeling most energized and take advantage of those times. If you're at work, take a break and go for that ten minute walk around the office, around the building or just in the general area. Walk as fast as you can for ten minutes.

When you finish your ten minute walk, you'll feel invigorated and more energized. Now, in a couple of hours, do it again. Cut your lunch break down by ten minutes and eat smaller portions and take that walk. Then once more in the afternoon, about an hour before quitting time.

If you'll practice this routine and get in the habit of doing it every day, you'll be totally surprised by how much faster your diet works and how that weight just seems to melt away. After all, if you don't do anything, you will just continue to flounder in your health and that will eventually cost you.

Now, start planning for that walk tomorrow and get started.
