Tinnitus is a ringing in the ears and for about 12 million tinnitus sufferers living in the US it is a chronic condition that affects every facet of their lives. In fact for them the affects of tinnitus iare so bad that the everyday things we all take for granted like going to work, getting to sleep at night, actually being able to hear your loved one's conversations are an impossible dream.
People in all aspects of life are now being exposed to extremely loud, and potentially damaging noise without their even realizing it.
This exposure to loud noise is the main cause of cochlear damage which results in hearing loss and tinnitus.
Some potential danger areas are:
Your job
Travelling to and from work
Pubs, clubs and concerts
Going to the movies
Let me explain.
You do not have to work in a noisy factory or an airport to be at risk of exposure to noise. Any situation that can expose you to sudden loud noises, (like the noises call center operators routinely are exposed to dozens of times every day), can cause damage to the sensitive organs in the inner ear.
That MP3 player you love listening to while you are on the bus or train is a major cause of tinnitus and hearing loss.
The decibel levels you are exposed to in pubs, clubs and concerts are normally always far to high and if your ears are ringing when you leave the pub, you know that you have sustained some hearing loss that can lead to tinnitus.
The same can be said for the sudden loud noises that you often experience at the movies!
The scary thing about this type of damage is that it is really a 'silent' type of damage! The hearing loss gets aggravated with time and the continued exposure to noise and is potentially a disaster for the younger generation of today.
It is very possible that by the time the teenagers of today reach their 40's they will have the hearing capabilities of todays people in their 60's. It is very possible they will be completely deaf by the time they reach their 60's!
My best advice is to take steps to protect your ears from the insidious dangers of loud noise. If you goto a pub or club, use noise protection.
Have a look at most savvy musicians performing today and you will see they are wearing ear plugs or some other sort of protection for their ears! They are taking steps to protect themselves and so should you!
