Rapper Lupe Fiasco recently announced that his upcoming triple disc album LupEND may be his last, and although his label, Atlantic Records, has declined to comment, his fans are already starting to worry. Fiasco previously explained that END stands for “everywhere,” “nowhere” and “down here” and also told Billboard last December that LupEND was going to be the title of his last album because “END” shows up when you finish playing a video game. No release date for Fiasco’s record has been confirmed but the rapper has tour dates lined up to close out 2008. Born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, Lupe Fiasco earned the moniker he is famous for in high school, when his friends started calling him Lupe (his mother shortened his name to “Lu” when he was a child) and the “Fiasco” comes from a hip-hop track by the Firm. The Chicago native got hooked on hip-hop after hearing rapper Nas and got his start rapping with the group Da Pak when he was 19. Da Pak signed with Epic Records and the group released a moderately successful single before disbanding. Lupe Fiasco then stepped out solo, inking a deal with the now-defunct Arista and issuing a handful of critically acclaimed mixtapes before the label collapsed and he moved to Atlantic. After releasing the solo hit “Kick, Push,” Lupe Fiasco appeared on fellow Windy City rapper Kanye West’s 2006 smash single “Touch the Sky.”

With two successful singles under his belt, socially conscious rapper Lupe Fiasco, whose rhymes often touch on issued like terrorism, drug abuse and poverty, finally released his highly anticipated debut album Food & Liquor in 2006. The album garnered three Grammy nominations, including one for Best Rap Album, and featured production contributions from some of the biggest names in the business, like Kanye West, Jay-Z, Mike Shinoda and the Neptunes. Fiasco followed the success of 2006’s Food & Liquor with the concept album The Cool in 2007. The Cool spawned the hit single “Superstar” and also signaled the creation of CRS, the hip-hop supergroup comprised of West, Pharrell and Fiasco. Lupe Fiasco first burst into the rap scene with the skateboard-themed single “Kick, Push” in 2006 and since then has been wowing hip-hop fans with his charisma, politically and socially charged lyrics and seal of approval from the rap community (I mean, he is practically rapper Kanye West’s protégé). Rumors of retirement have been looming since Fiasco released his sophomore effort, The Cool, in 2007 and with his third album on the way fans are hoping it won’t be the rapper’s last.
