In spite of people's stories it is not that hard to become a funnier man (woman).Describing why is it that we find stuff hilarious (from a intelligent neurologists way of thinking), is the first thing to do.I am sure there are times we read things we have not known of, at those times, our mind connects the neural cells by creating a brand new patch between the two neural cells.



This route is called a synapse and here is an example of how it works: Presume we think of food, and we know that the grapes are food as well, now, the brain will create a path (synapse, which gets thicker), which connects the neural cells that collect data about food and that fruit. In the future, there are good odds that when you think about food, you'll think of apples, too. You must be all like, "This has nothing to do with humor". And you're wrong, this is the actual way humor works.

It all starts with someone telling you a short, common story. This is what stand-up comedians call a setup You should now be thinking about the story you've heard in a certain way. And then, your brain will create connection, leading from this setup to a suitable punch-line. Now, you probably won't hear the same punch-line that you thought of, but a different one, instead and it will make you laugh. Most of the people don't understand this right away, but the next example will surely explain it better.

The Setup:

What is the most satisfying thing next to being shot at and missed?

The Punch-line:

An income tax refund.

What did you think when you heard the setup? Surely, you would've said it was either a Bosnian, Serbian or Croatian in the driver's seat. During the setup our mind was forced to think this way. But as I, previously said, you didn't expect this kind of punch-line. Remember this good, because it is a basic principle of the way humor works.

You should create the best possible setup, as it's really important. A good comedian needs a good setup which delivers only the basic facts (so that there are many possible ways of thinking), so that the audience would have to think hard and be convinced that their way of thinking is the right one. The more you think your punch-line is the most fitting one, the more will the actually punch-line make you laugh. In case you have already heard the joke, it will probably not be as funny, simply because your brain knows the punch-line, therefore it won't create any new routes.
