Not Your Daughters Tummy Tuck

    View:
You think fondly of those days when you had a flat stomach. Oh, to just be able to wear a bikini again! You think that those days could never possibly return. Not now that you've had three children – two of whom are twins. You wish that there was some way that you could return to those days when you had a cute tummy, rather than one that sags.

You're birthday is coming up, and you'd like to give yourself a tummy tuck as a birthday present. You'd love it, your husband will love it, and all will be well in the world! The problem is, you don't know how to fit the tummy tuck into your busy schedule.

You're a wife, mother, and professional. Needless to say, there isn't nearly enough time in the day to get everything done, so how might a tummy tuck be possible? The first front to conquer is work job. You've been diligent about always being there, and haven't taken a vacation yet. Yes, it's time for a vacation – one that involves a tummy tuck.

Next, it's time to conquer the family front. Your husband works just as much as you do, and your babysitter is only available a couple of times a week. You've made ends meet by working at home on certain days, but you need time to just relax and recover.

Thank goodness for grandparents. You've called your parents, and they said that they'd be more than happy to take the children for a week or two while you rest. Your husband, chivalrous man that he is, had offered to take care of you when he comes home from work.

However, you're getting ahead of yourself, because while you have found a surgeon, you haven't had your consultation yet! That's in a couple of days, so until then you can start getting things in order, and maybe even work a couple of hours of overtime to help pay for the procedure.

At your consultation, you feel like your tummy is a sketchbook. Your surgeon draws lines all over your tummy, takes pictures, and makes measurements. Once all this is done, a date for the surgery is set. You can't help but be thrilled that your dream of finally having a flat tummy again will be realized in just a little while after the tummy tuck.

The surgery takes a couple of hours, and you wake up about an hour after the procedure is finished. There are lots of bandages around your midsection, and you feel sore. A little while later, your surgeon comes in to visit, and informs you that the surgery was a great success!

After a couple of days in the hospital, it is finally time to take the bandages off and have your stitches removed. Once this procedure is completed, you're led to a mirror to finally look at the results. You're still a bit swollen, but nothing could wipe that smile off your face – yes, you're that pleased with the results! Bikini, here you come!
Not Your Daughters Tummy Tuck
As we age, one of the first places we start putting on excess weight is around the belly. "Spare tire," "love handles," "beer gut"... you've heard all of these phrases used to describe your older relatives, but now suddenly they're being used on you! Because extra tummy is one of the most common signs of aging, tummy tuck is one of the most popular operations!

How The Tummy Tuck Works

Your surgeon will make a V-shaped incision from one hip bone to the other. Then, a second incision will be made vertically. They will tighten your abdominal muscles and remove excess skin from the area. By stretching the muscles and skin in the abdominal area, your waistline will shrink, and the excess protrusion of the belly will disappear.

Although some patients spend a night or two in the hospital, most are out the same day. Your doctor may prescribe a light exercise schedule to help you get your muscles back into shape.

Some Things To Keep In Mind About The Tummy Tuck

- It is a major operation, which means you will be given anesthesia and be cut open. Abdominoplasty leaves a scar. For the 6 to 9 months after the operation, the scars will be quite noticeable. After that, the skin will heal over the scar. The scar will fade with time, but it will always be slightly visible.

- The operation takes 2 to 5 hours. After the operation, you will need a few weeks to recover. Most people do not return to work until up to 3 weeks after the operation.

- A tummy tuck is not recommended for obese people. It is best for those who are healthy overall but have an embarrassing protrusion of fat around their belly.

- Remember that, like any other major surgery, there are risks involved. Risks are rare, but there are cases of improper healing or blood clots. Talk to your doctor and have them assess the risks for you.

Before And After

After your tummy tuck, you will find that your abdomen is both flatter and firmer. It will be much easier to keep your abs in good shape, and you won't see any more of that saggy roll of fat hanging around your mid-section!

Although most people get a tummy tuck so they'll feel better about their bodies, many also find that they are more comfortable in their clothes after the operation. After the tummy tuck, you will find that you're back to your regular size.

You will also have scars, but they will heal. Talk to your doctor about what you should expect. In many cases, the scars become more unnoticeable as time goes on after the operation. About 6 months after the operation, they become fainter and start to fade.

A tummy tuck can be a real life-changer. Just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into before you go. Talk to your doctor about what you can expect, and remember that the tummy tuck is a major surgical procedure.
