For the majority of us who have completed school or college, you have likely gone through the tough and seemingly insurmountable task of thesis writing. To many it is a fact of life that we have to approach with a calm attitude and approach. If you are not an organized person, you will have a hard time trying to get this paper written.



Now we will attempt to get this formidable task done in an easy way by separating it into smaller parts that seem less daunting. Tackling a thesis is easier if it is broken up into smaller parts. Thesis writing has it's positive and negative sides. It is without a doubt a hard task to complete, but on the positive side the hardship you are experiencing while starting this assignment is but a drop in the bucket compared to the feeling of a job well done.

Now onto making the task easier by breaking it down into smaller parts. The first part to any thesis is an outline. The outline is a breakdown of what your thesis is all about. You begin the outline by creating headlines, subheadings and finally titles for each separate subheading. As you fill out the outline you will see how each part of the thesis will come together and how it will flow from one line to the next. Once the outline is complete your task has been shortened and nowhere near as frightening. This little bit of knowledge will carry you through to the next part.

The best approach is probably to get the simple things done first. Try getting the easier tasks out of the way. The Material and Method area of the thesis is most likely the easiest part of the paper so sit down and try to finish it all in one sitting.

Once you have completed your Methods and Materials section out of the way you can make a list of all the things you will need to use for your thesis. Imagine you are making a oral presentation and keep all your figures in order as you imagine your presentation. Once this is accomplished, make small notes and keywords in the same order as you explained your figures. Then you have made the framework to outline the sections. You can, and it is advised that you run your outline ideas past your advisor who can supply valuable opinions and thoughts.

The next step is to organize your work. This is something that most of us fail to do and some even find it impossible to do. You may have all the information and the best research topic but if you do not have the material organized you will never be able to get it together when most needed. It is best to save each chapter as a different file and also create a separate file for references. Put the respective chapter outlines, figures and notes in each chapter file. If possible take a backup of all your thesis files on disks or try sending it to your email as attachments. This will ensure that no data is lost even if your computer decides to crash all of a sudden.

Now that you have all the information, all you need to do is to make it look like a real thesis report. The report generally needs to have the following sections: the title page, table of contents, abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and conclusion.

You now have come to a very important part of your thesis. The re-writes! This includes re-reading and changing the paper as one unit. Double check facts and figures so you know they're correct. Style and grammatical mistakes must be avoided without exception. If you can, find someone who is in your area of study to check it over for you before turning in your thesis.
