Back country snowboarding is one of the most exciting winter sports around, but only if you have the right snow gear to hit the mountains safely and comfortably. It is important to purchase your clothing and gear from a reputable retailer and do a bit of outdoor research before you begin exploring this adventurous sport.

When purchasing snow gear for the first time you will want to find some better known brands, but there is no need to spend thousands of dollars when you are only snowboarding for the first time and still figuring out what you like and what you don't like. One piece of outdoor equipment that is worth spending a decent amount of money on, however, is a pair of high quality merino wool blend socks. Some name brand gloves and jackets or other accessories made of Gore-Tex are also recommended. Keeping the hands dry and warm is crucial during back country snowboarding.

The weather will determine how many layers of clothing you should wear, starting with thermal underwear, and ending with waterproof pants and jackets. Other snow gear, including hats, goggles, boots and boards, can be purchased at your discretion. Hats and goggles should be comfortable, fit your head snuggly, and show your unique style. If you can't afford the board and boots just yet though, you can always rent these once you get to the mountain. But chances are that you will want to purchase all of your own outdoor equipment in no time.
